No news organization in America did more to torch its credibility in recent years than CNN.
The crisis at CNN is reaching panic levels.
And now CNN will never be the same after the plug got pulled on this billion-dollar mistake.
CNN’s parent company, WarnerMedia, recently merged with Discovery.
The merger went through just after CNN OK’d the launch of CNN+, the brainchild of disgraced former network President Jeff Zucker.
Zucker planned to spend one billion dollars over the next four years in an effort to turn CNN+ into a streaming giant like Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus.
But just weeks after a disastrous launch that saw fewer than 10,000 subscribers use CNN+ at any given time the new bosses at Discovery are ready to pull the plug on CNN’s foray into streaming.
Axios reports:
Warner Bros. Discovery has suspended all external marketing spend for CNN+ and has laid off CNN’s longtime chief financial officer as it weighs what to do with the subscription streaming service moving forward, five sources tell Axios.
Why it matters: Inside CNN, executives think the launch has been successful. Discovery executives disagree.
Over the last six years Jeff Zucker turned CNN into the frontlines of the “resistance” to Donald Trump and the conservative movement.
CNN’s programming was filled with comfort food for liberals that believed Donald Trump and his supporters were corrupt criminals and the modern-day version of Adolf Hitler and Nazi movement.
Discovery’s management – led by CEO David Zaslav – wants to make CNN a credible news organization again.
And that means pulling back on left-wing performance artists and focusing on journalism.
To that end, one of the first changes in a revamped CNN will be a 9 p.m. newscast in Chris Cuomo’s old time slot as opposed to another left-wing personality-driven program.
Axios also reports:
Discovery executives are focused mostly on returning CNN to its journalistic core, a point Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav reiterated in a town hall last week. That includes less of a focus on primetime perspective programming, and more of a focus on hard, breaking news. CNN+ features an array of soft news content, which doesn’t align with Discovery’s broader vision for CNN…
…Sources say a plan is being considered to replace Chris Cuomo’s 9:00pm EST primetime slot with a live newscast, instead of personality-driven perspective programming.
But the major shoe to drop could be CNN soon parting ways with censorship champion and chief Democrat Party propagandist Brian Stelter.
SOURCE(S): “Brian Stelter’s days are numbered with the network.” Discovery management “very much considers him a Zucker henchmen and embarrassment” and believes he is “a negative partisan lighting rod and distraction going forward” /more to come.
