Americans wondered what the FBI was hiding.
Now many suspect the worst.
And all hell broke loose when the FBI won’t answer this Ted Cruz question about January 6.
Ray Epps is one of the biggest mysteries about January 6.
Video footage showed Epps on January 5 exhorting a group of Trump supporters to storm the Capitol the following day.
The crowd immediately chants “Fed! Fed! Fed!” at Epps suspecting him to be an undercover informant.
On January 6 video footage showed Epps shouting for Trump supporters to head to the Capitol during Donald Trump’s speech at a “Save America” rally.
Other video showed Epps whispering to a man who then smashes through a police barricade.
The FBI initially listed Epps on their Most Wanted list before vanishing from the Bureau’s website without any explanation.
These circumstances led many – led by Tucker Carlson and Revolver News – to suspect Ray Epps was acting as a confidential FBI informant on the days leading up to – and the day of – January 6.
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Texas Senator Ted Cruz grilled executive assistant director of the FBI’s National Security Branch Jill Sanborn about the presence of plain clothes FBI officers and confidential informants in the crowd on January 6.
Sanborn – who was under oath – refused to answer Senator Cruz’s questions giving off the impression the FBI had something to hide.
Breitbart reports on the exchange:
Cruz asked Sanborn, “How many FBI agents or confidential informants actively participated in the events of January 6?”
She responded, “Sir, I’m sure you can appreciate that I can’t go into the specifics of sources and methods.”
Cruz asked if “any FBI agents or confidential informants” actively participated in the events of January 6th. “Yes or no?” he asked. Sanborn responded, “Sir, I can’t answer that.”
Sanborn gave a similar response when asked whether any FBI agents or confidential informants “commit[ed] crimes of violence on January 6th,” or if any FBI agents or informants actively encouraged and incited crimes of violence that day.
Under questioning again, she claimed she did not know whether “federal agents or anyone in the service of federal agents actively encouraged violence or criminal conduct. “Not to my knowledge, sir,” she told Cruz.
After the hearing, when video surfaced of Sanborn refusing to confirm or deny that Epps or any other confidential FBI informants participated in the violence on January 6, Nancy Pelosi’s January 6 Select Committee released a bizarre statement that raised more questions than it answered.
The committee claimed it spoke to Epps in secret back in November and Epps supposedly denied ever being an FBI informant.
A controversial statement from the committee read:
The Select Committee is aware of unsupported claims that Ray Epps was an FBI informant based on the fact that he was on the FBI Wanted list and then was removed from that list without being charged. The Select Committee has interviewed Mr. Epps.
Mr. Epps informed us that he was not employed by, working with, or acting at the direction of any law enforcement agency on January 5th or 6th or at any other time, and that he has never been an informant for the FBI or any other law enforcement agency.
The January 6 committee counts Adam Schiff – who lied for years about Donald Trump colluding with the Russians – as a member.
As a member of the committee Schiff released doctored text messages from Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan to then-Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows.
The committee’s statement did not reveal if Epps was under oath when he supposedly testified he was not an FBI informant nor did the committee release a transcript of Epps’ comments so the public could see the exact wording of the questions the committee asked Epps as well as his answers.
It’s clear the committee’s statement about Epps is not the end of this story about if the FBI had confidential informants on the ground on January 6 and what role – if any – the FBI’s human sources played in that day’s terrible events.
