A growing scandal is a ticking time bomb for the Democrat Party.
Now the party leaders are stepping in to staunch the bleeding.
And all hell broke loose when Chuck Schumer told this top Democrat to resign.
After the sixth and seventh women stepped forward to accuse New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual assault or sexual harassment, New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand issued a statement calling on Governor Cuomo to resign.
“Confronting and overcoming the Covid [coronavirus] crisis requires sure and steady leadership. We commend the brave actions of the individuals who have come forward with serious allegations of abuse and misconduct. Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign,” Schumer and Gillibrand’s statement read.
Schumer and Gillibrand’s statement hit the press hours after Governor Cuomo held a defiant press conference.
Cuomo—dismissing the allegations as false—expressed his belief that when the allegations were investigated the facts would be on his side.
“There are facts and then there are opinions. And I’ve always separated the two,” Cuomo declared. “Politicians who don’t know a single fact, but yet form a conclusion and an opinion, are in my opinion reckless and dangerous.”
Governor Cuomo told the press that he would not resign and protested that he was the victim of cancel culture.
“The people of New York should not have confidence in a politician who takes a position without knowing any facts or substance. That, my friends, is politics at its worst,” Governor Cuomo added. “People know the difference between playing politics, bowing to cancel culture, and the truth,” he said.
Democrats are piling on in what appears to be a coordinated attack on Cuomo to force him out of office.
What’s raising eyebrows around the country is how Democrats are settling on the “Me Too” allegations to insist Cuomo step down.
Schumer and Gillibrand’s statement ignored the more serious scandal that Cuomo allegedly criminally obstructed justice when his administration withheld information about the number of deaths in nursing homes that resulted from the coronavirus.
Forcing Cuomo out as the consequence of a “Me Too” scandal as opposed to impeaching him for ordering nursing homes to take in coronavirus patients and covering up the death toll is a more politically convenient narrative for the Democrats heading into the 2022 midterms.
The last thing Democrats want is Cuomo’s nursing home death scandal front and center.
Several Democrat governors including Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer also mandated nursing homes take in coronavirus patients.
Cuomo’s mismanagement of the coronavirus could turn into a national drag for Democrats so the party is taking steps by settling on a story that Cuomo has to go because of “Me Too.”
