Bill Clinton is still a fierce left-wing partisan.
But that doesn’t mean Clinton doesn’t know danger when he sees it.

Speaking at a symposium at Georgetown University former President Bill Clinton delivered sober words to his party about the state of play in the midterm election.
Clinton warned that trendy causes supported by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies such as “defund the police and socialism” threatened to define the Democrat Party.
The former president warned that “people in the middle, especially like suburban middle-class voters, upper-middle-class voters” are the Americans that decide elections and overwhelmingly reject turning America into Venezuela and attacking law enforcement because they “had something to lose.”
Clinton also took issue with the growing authoritarian impulse on the left to jail Republicans because they were a supposed threat to democracy.
Instead, when Clinton was asked about how to deal with the GOP Clinton fell back on the standard American norm of handling your opponents “by winning elections.”
“Politics is about power,” Clinton explained adding that elections “are zero-sum games.”
The polling data and electoral history buttress Clinton’s comments.
In the 2020 election Republicans swept every toss-up race and gained 14 seats in the House of Representatives despite the polling showing Democrats on track to grow their majority by as many as 20 seats.
That’s because suburban swing voters recoiled at the Democrat Party’s support for the violent Black Lives Matter group and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s call to defund the police.
Matters have not improved for Democrats going into the 2022 election.
The Democrat Party is defined by two themes with voters.
First, Joe Biden entered office fancying himself the new FDR and pushed trillions of dollars in new spending in an attempt to turn America into a cradle-to-grave socialist welfare state like Europe.
That multi-trillion-dollar spending binge shot inflation to a 40-year high and tanked the stock market, which lost nearly nine percent of its value in September.
Second, crime surged in major cities as Democrat mayors and George Soros-backed prosecutors imposed dangerous cash bail schemes and emptied prisons of convicts which set dangerous criminals loose on the streets.
Murder rates in America’s biggest cities rose to alarming levels.
An ABC/Washington Post poll showed why Democrats should pay attention to Bill Clinton’s words of caution about socialism and crime.
The ABC/Post poll showed Republicans leading Democrats 51 to 46 in the congressional generic ballot.
Republicans seized a commanding lead on this question if suburban voters picked the GOP.
“Suburban women split about evenly between the parties (44-47% Democratic-Republican), about the same as among suburban men (45-50% Democratic-Republican),” ABC reported.
Bill Clinton may be many things, but he is not politically stupid.
And Bill Clinton knows Democrats are headed for disaster.
