New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez loves to mix it up.
Unfortunately for Democrats Ocasio-Cortez picks most of her fights with members of her own party.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the gloves off and now one Democrat will pay the price.
Democrats reacted to the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito – and reportedly joined by Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, and Amy Coney Barrett – that overturned the horrendous 1973 Roe v. Wade decision by trying to outflank one another in terms of who could stake out the most radical pro-abortion ground.
Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema is trying to position herself as a moderate since she will run for re-election in a swing state during a presidential election cycle in 2024.
That’s why Sinema’s statement reaffirmed Sinema’s support for abortion on demand while at the same time rejecting the left’s calls to abolish the filibuster.
Sinema claimed the filibuster was necessary to protect abortion up until birth from pro-life legislation because Republicans will control Congress again.
“Protections in the Senate safeguarding against the erosion of women’s access to health care have been used half-a-dozen times in the past ten years, and are more important now than ever,” Sinema’s statement began.
“Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve always supported women’s access to health care, I’m a cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, and I’ll continue working with anyone to protect women’s ability to make decisions about their futures,” Sinema concluded.
Senator Sinema’s statement enraged Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez supports eliminating the legislative filibuster to ram through a radical bill that codifies abortion through the ninth month of pregnancy into federal law.
The socialist congresswoman slammed Sinema on social media.
“We could protect Roe tomorrow, but Sinema refuses to act on the filibuster. Until that changes she can take a seat talking about ‘women’s access to health care,’” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
Ocasio-Cortez was not content to just call out Senator Sinema for being wrong adding that a socialist should mount a primary challenge to Sinema.
“Hold everyone contributing to this disaster accountable, GOP & Dem obstructionists included. She should be primaried,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.
Ocasio-Cortez may think primarying Sinema is a great idea now.
But Republicans could hold as many as 53 Senate seats after this November’s midterm election.
And in 2024 Republicans will target Democrat incumbents in Ohio, Montana, West Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Maine and Minnesota.
Given that this is a presidential year and the Democrats could see the wildly unpopular Joe Biden or Kamala Harris as their nominee, Republicans have a realistic chance of emerging from the 2024 election winning back the White House and securing a 60-seat filibuster-proof majority.
If a socialist defeats Sinema in the primary that would send the Democrats into the general election with an unelectable left-wing nominee.
And that could prove to be the final piece of the puzzle that cements a GOP supermajority in the Senate.
