Donald Trump is not happy with what he is seeing on Fox News Channel.
There is a big change at Fox in how they cover Trump.
And a top Fox News star just called Donald Trump the one name that will have Trump seeing red.
Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume claimed Republican voters viewed Donald Trump as a “loser” after the disappointing midterm election results in comparison to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his smashing 19-point re-election win last November.
DeSantis traveled to New York to address a Staten Island law enforcement group in a move political observers took as DeSantis beta-testing his 2024 presidential campaign themes.
Establishing law-and-order bona fides is a must for any serous Republican presidential candidate.
Last November New York emerged as one of the few bright spots for the GOP as Republican challenger Lee Zeldin came within six points of ousting Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul.
Zeldin’s strong campaign — which centered on a tough-on-crime message — allowed the GOP to win back the House as the down-ballot effect allowed Republicans to win the congressional races that created the new Republican majority.
As polls show Ron DeSantis emerging as a viable alternative to Donald Trump, Fox News covered DeSantis’ trip to Staten Island wall-to-wall.
Hume appeared on “Special Report” and explained DeSantis wanted to run his campaign themes before a live audience to see how people and the media would react.
“Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is taking a road test on different issues around the country. He is getting backlash, or I guess offensive language from the former president,” Hume stated.
Hume then claimed Trump was a “loser” because many of the candidates he endorsed in the 2022 election lost whereas DeSantis won re-election by the largest margin in the state’s history.
“Well, that was inevitable, I think, because, obviously, Mr. Trump recognizes that this governor who just won reelection by nearly 20 points is at the moment, in the eyes of most people, a winner, whereas he, Mr. Trump – although there’s skeptics about how it happened – was a loser. And he hates that,” Hume added.
Trump did not react well to Fox’s coverage of DeSantis’ trip to New York or Hume’s comments.
In a post on Truth Social Trump slammed Fox News as the “RINO network” and claimed it was moving left.
“So interesting to watch FoxNews cover the small and unenthusiastic 139 person crowd in Staten Island for DeSantis, but stay as far away as possible from coverage of the thousands of people, many unable to get in, at the Club 47 event in West Palm Beach, Florida. I call FoxNews the RINO Network, and their DOWN BIG Ratings accurately reflect the name. If FAKE NEWS CNN was smart, which they’re not, they’d go Conservative & ‘All Trump, All the Time,’ like in 2016, and become a Ratings Juggernaut,” Trump wrote.
Fox News board member Paul Ryan and Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch reportedly want the GOP to move on from Trump.
And the coverage on Fox News reflects that fact.
Fox no longer provides live coverage of Trump’s events and network hosts take any chance to promote a Republican alternative to Trump.
How Fox covers Trump, DeSantis, and the other Republicans running for president will be one of the top media stories of the 2024 election.
