Joe Biden’s political fortunes took a sharp turn over the last several weeks.
Crises and failures piled up that threatened the Democrats’ grip on power.
A key ally spoke the two words that were the last thing Joe Biden wanted to hear.
Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney holds one of the most difficult jobs in politics.
The New York congressman is tasked with managing the Democrats’ campaign in the House of Representatives to the keep the party in power.
That could be easier said than done.
Control of Congress switched hands during each of the last four presidents’ terms in office.
Democrats are clinging to a historically narrow margin and Republicans only need to flip six seats to reclaim the majority.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Sean Patrick Maloney answered that “of course” he was worried about Joe Biden’s sinking poll numbers.
An Economist/YouGov poll found just 39 percent of Americans approved of the job Joe Biden was doing as president.
A brand-new Quinnipiac poll showed Biden’s approval number plummeting to 42 percent with more Americans giving Joe Biden’s management of the coronavirus pandemic a thumbs-down than believing Biden successfully managed the coronavirus.
Congressman Maloney tried to make excuses for Biden whining about how difficult managing the pandemic, Afghanistan, and all the other self-inflicted crises Biden created really was.
“Nobody said it would be easy ending a 20-year war, no one said it was going to be easy ending the global pandemic. But, he is focused on science, and he’s focused on getting people vaccinated,” Maloney added.
Joe Biden entered the presidency with a brief honeymoon period where Biden coasted on lower approval numbers than virtually every other president that took office.
But Biden’s grace period did not last long.
Americans soured on Biden’s disastrous communications strategy and permanent mask mandate strategy which caused Americans to lose confidence in his COVID policies.
Biden’s failure to execute a safe, orderly and honorable withdrawal from Afghanistan was the straw that broke the camel’s back as it shattered the myth of Biden as a competent and experienced Washington hand.
Many Americans also believe there is no operational control of the southern border as more than 200,000 illegal aliens poured into the country in successive months.
And the August jobs report showing just 235,000 jobs created combined with inflation soaring at levels not seen in decades undercut Biden’s argument that his economic policies improved the lives of ordinary Americans.
Democrats are worried about Biden’s sinking poll numbers for a good reason.
Presidential approval rating is the best predictor of how their party will perform in the midterm elections.
The lower Biden’s approval number plunges, the greater the chance Republicans will win a wave election.
