Jen Psaki’s days as White House press secretary are numbered.
Replacements are already jockeying for position.
A CNN host dropped a bombshell about taking over for Jen Psaki.
CNN’s Abby Phillip is a rising star in left-wing media.
Phillip parlayed her ability to speak social justice warrior buzzwords and play identity politics to rise from CNN commentator to host of “Inside Politics Sunday.”
Abby Phillip has been on the Biden team’s radar for a while and with news Psaki would depart her post next year,Phillip’s name was rumored to be the top choice to represent the Biden administration in the White House press briefing room.
But in an email to POLITICO, Phillip shot down speculation that she would succeed Psaki.
POLITICO Playbook reports:
During the fall, some Biden officials tossed around ABBY PHILLIP’s name, according to someone familiar with the discussions. “If this is true, it’s the first I am hearing about it,” the CNN star told West Wing Playbook in an email. “I’ve never been contacted about anything like this nor would I ever consider it.” The White House did not comment.
Psaki kicked off the replacement speculation by telling former Barack Obama chief strategist David Axelrod that she planned to step down by the spring of 2022.
“I think it’s going to be time for somebody else to have this job in a year from now or about a year from now,” Psaki told Axelrod on his “Axe Files” podcast.
Psaki explained that she planned to step down to spend time with her young children.
“I don’t want to miss moments. I don’t want to miss things, and I’m very mindful of that as well,” Psaki continued.
“It’s a great job,” Psaki added. “It will be hard, but I also never thought I’d be here, and I also love my kids a lot.”
There is no doubt that Phillip would be a high-profile replacement that the corporate media and Biden administration fans in the White House press corps would swoon over.
Few commentators or hosts get better press than Phillip who quickly rose through the ranks at CNN thanks to her uncanny ability to deliver left-wing talking points dressed up as neutral “analysis.”
But stocking the airwaves with rabid left-wingers has not been a winning ratings strategy for CNN.
The network’s lost two thirds of its primetime audience since January.
However, that decline could open up expanded opportunities for Phillip as CNN could look to shakeup its weekday primetime and daytime lineup.
The prospects of rabid career ascent could help explain why Phillip would choose to stay at CNN over the chance to be the White House press secretary who may have to explain why Democrats following Joe Biden led to losses of the party’s House and Senate majorities in the 2022 midterm elections.
