It’s unreal how Barack Obama is still nudging America with his stances on politics. The former president has been out of office for a while now. And yet, he doesn’t appear to be wanting his opinions to be out of the political spotlight.
Take a look at this one. Barack Obama has come forward out of the shadows to confront Americans about being “too patriotic.” This message couldn’t have worse timing, as it comes on the weekend of one of the nation’s best holidays: 4th of July.
The timing of Obama’s words in particular is what hits a nerve with Americans all over. According to World Net Daily:
Barack Obama has called on the world to stand up for tolerance, moderation and respect for others – warning that sectarian politics could lead to chaos and violence.
The former US president said some countries had adopted “an aggressive kind of nationalism” and “increased resentment of minority groups”, in a speech in Indonesia on Saturday that could be seen as a commentary on the US as well as Indonesia.
“It’s been clear for a while that the world is at a crossroads. At an inflection point,” Obama said, telling a Jakarta crowd stories of how much the capital had improved since he lived there as a child.
Former president Obama never spoke of Donald Trump by name in his speech. However, he did mention many topics that many perceive to apply to President Trump, as well as the United States of America. These include his opinions on attacks on institutions, ignorance, fake news on social media, and resentment toward other peoples.
The crowd was also questioning Obama on President Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris climate deal. However, Obama’s response did not answer the question directly. His response was that although the Trump administration has chosen to pull out of the deal, it is “technically not out yet.”
Time will tell if Americans choose to listen to any of the former president’s warnings on these issues.
