Democrats never learn.
It’s a big mistake to try Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
And now one Democrat instantly regretted picking a very public fight with Ron DeSantis.
Governor DeSantis’ latest target are George Soros-backed prosecutors that refuse to enforce the law and make cities dangerous places to live.
DeSantis showed he meant business by announcing he suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren pending removal by a vote of the Florida State Senate.
“We are suspending Soros-backed 13th circuit state attorney Andrew Warren for neglecting his duties as he pledges not to uphold the laws of the state,” DeSantis announced.
DeSantis slammed Warren for refusing to enforce Florida’s anti-riot law as well as the state’s 15-week abortion ban.
Additionally, Warren announced he would not enforce a ban on transgender surgeries for minor children should DeSantis sign one into law.
Warren is a Soros-backed prosecutor in the mold of LA County’s George Gascon or Chesa Boudin out in San Francisco who think enforcing the law is optional and dependent on the offender’s politics.
“We are not going to allow this pathogen that’s been around the country of ignoring the law, we are not going to let that get a foothold here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis stated.
While Warren looked the other way on Black Lives Matter rioters arrested, Warren made public displays of arresting pastors for holding in-person services during the early days of the COVID pandemic.
Appearing on CBS News in Miami Warren whined about his suspension and falsely claimed it was unconstitutional.
“Sure, this is blatant overreach by the governor. He is trying to upset a fair and free election. Two of them, actually. This isn’t just an attack. This isn’t about trying to suspend one elected official. This is about trying to suspend democracy in here in Hillsborough County. I mean, this is a core principle of our democracy. The voters elect their leaders, not the governor. He can’t just simply pick up a pen or a crayon and change the will of the people,” Warren stated.
“He is stepping on the rights of voters in Hillsborough County. This is blatantly unconstitutional in violation of Florida statute. He does not have the authority to suspend me even if he wants to, especially when he is focused on things I haven’t even done yet. The bottom line is the people elected me to serve in this position, and I am going to continue doing it to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Warren added.
Ron DeSantis made clear the state constitution vested the veto power in the office of the governor and not local prosecutors.
And Governor DeSantis showing he will stand up to George Soros-backed prosecutors and take meaningful action is why many Republicans want DeSantis to run for president in 2024.
