Establishment Republicans think now is the time to define the party.
For years they bided their time hoping to expunge Donald Trump’s influence.
And now this top GOP congressman said two words about Trump that will make your blood boil.
Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw served America heroically in the Afghanistan war.
The former Navy SEAL wears an eye patch due to an injury incurred when an IED exploded while Crenshaw was out on duty.
But Crenshaw is also seen as a successor to John McCain and the other neoconservatives that support foreign wars of occupation and nation building.
Donald Trump upended that Bush-era status quo in the 2016 election when Trump won the GOP nomination by supporting an America First foreign policy that opposed globalist adventures like the wars in Iraq and Syria.
Establishment Republicans that favor military adventurism abroad believe they found their new pitchman in Crenshaw and many expect Crenshaw to run for president in 2024.
On the latest episode of “Hold These Truths With Dan Crenshaw” the Texas congressman beta tested a message to break with Trump’s pro-America handling of foreign policy.
Crenshaw told listeners America had a responsibility to act as the world’s policeman.
“We’re the United States of America so we always have to be prepared for everything,” Crenshaw began.
Crenshaw claimed Communist China and Russia only worried about repressing domestic opposition to the ruling regime.
“China just has to prepare for subjugating their own people, that’s one of their big focuses, and then they have to focus on screwing with us,” Crenshaw added. “Russia is primarily focused on its periphery. They want the Ukraine, that’s usually what they care about.”
Crenshaw then denounced supporters of Donald Trump’s America First foreign policy as dangerous and stupid.
“We have to care about everything, and it should be that way,” Crenshaw continued. “I think too many on our side get hung up on this issue. They pretend we can be an Ostrich and hide and that just makes you an easy target. It’s unbelievably naive reasoning and dangerous reasoning and stupid.”
Crenshaw continued to work himself up into a lather declaring that anyone who opposed “endless war” is a “friggin’ idiot.”
“Everyone who has ever screamed, ‘No more endless wars’ as their foreign policy is a friggin’ idiot.”
One of those “friggin’ idiots” opposed to endless wars is Donald Trump.
In a speech to the 2020 graduating class at West Point, President Trump explained that it was time to “end the era of endless wars.”
“We are ending the era of endless wars,” Trump said, adding that it was not up to the American Armed Forces “to solve ancient conflicts in faraway lands that many people have not even heard of.”
Crenshaw’s faced scrutiny from conservatives for being a Never Trumper based on some social media posts critical of Donald Trump before Crenshaw won election to Congress.
Now as Crenshaw possibly prepares for a 2024 presidential campaign Crenshaw’s John McCain/Mitt Romney-style foreign policy and his name-calling of anyone that supports Donald Trump’s America First foreign policy will raise some serious questions with Republican voters.
