The public did not believe the official story of a suicide with all the mysterious circumstances surrounding Epstein’s apparent suicide.
And William Barr just revealed who was allegedly to blame for Jeffrey Epstein’s death.
After Epstein was found dead in his jail cell – a medical report claimed he died by hanging himself even though the broken bones in his neck were more consistent with a murder – Attorney General William Barr announced he was outraged and that there would be an investigation to determine the truth.
Barr’s first step to restoring public trust was holding officials accountable for failing to perform their basic duties.
On Monday, Attorney General Barr announced he removed Hugh Hurwitz, Acting Director of the Bureau of Prisons – which oversaw the facility where Epstein died – from his position.
“I am confident Dr. Hawk Sawyer and Dr. Kane will lead BOP with the competence, skill and resourcefulness they have embodied throughout their government careers,” Barr’s statement announcing the change in leadership at the Bureau of Prisons read.
Barr also reassigned Lamine N’Diaye – who was the prison warden – and placed the two guards assigned to monitor Epstein on administrative leave.
The number of failures by the Manhattan Correctional Center was staggering.
Epstein was taken off suicide watch just one week after allegedly attempting to take his own life.
There were no cameras in Epstein’s cell.
The guards assigned to watch Epstein both claimed to fall asleep on the job and allegedly falsified logs to make it appear as if they were performing their mandated checks on Epstein when they failed to do so.
All of these strange details led millions of Americans to suspect foul play in Epstein’s death.
Barr’s move to hold the officials tasked with securing Epstein accountable was an important step in providing an account of the accused pedophile’s death that the American people can believe.
From Bill Clinton to Prince Andrew, there were untold numbers of rich and powerful individuals that may have known about – or taken part in – Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking of underage girls.
That provided a believable motive for wanting to see Epstein meet an untimely end.
Even if there was no grand conspiracy behind Epstein’s death, a prisoner in the custody of the federal government cannot be allowed to take their own life.
First, it deprives the victims and their families of seeing justice served.
Second, a prisoner death can only be the result of catastrophic, system-wide failure.
That is exactly what happened in the case of Jeffrey Epstein.
And it only stands to reason that those responsible should pay with their jobs.
William Barr upheld a standard of accountability in government that past administrations let lapse.
And that is one big reason so many Americans lost faith in government.
