Democrats thought Fox News firing Tucker Carlson would deliver a reason to celebrate.
But liberals got some bad news.
And that‘s because Democrats heard two words about Tucker Carlson’s next job that terrify them.
Pro-Joe Biden strategist Rick Wilson — who helped form the left-wing super PAC The Lincoln Project — sent shudders down the spines of Democrats with his analysis on Fox News firing Tucker Carlson.
Wilson told the left-wing corporate media outlet The Guardian that he always looked at events like Fox News firing Carlson through the lens of the “worst-case scenario.”
And to Wilson the “worst-case scenario” was the fact that Fox News axing Carlson created a ready-made platform to launch a 2024 presidential campaign.
Wilson described Carlson as a “political celebrity” who could harness his millions of followers into grassroots support and fundraising muscle to jumpstart a White House bid.
“Tucker is one of the very small number of political celebrities in this country who has the name ID, the personal wealth, the stature to actually declare and run for president and in a Republican primary run in the same track Donald Trump did: the transgressive, bad boy candidate, the one who lets you say what you want to say, think what you want to think, act how you want to act, no matter how grotesque it is,” Wilson stated.
Wilson added that Fox News firing Carlson looked like the establishment trying to silence a brave truth-teller which would only add fuel to Carlson’s campaign message that American institutions are corrupt and out to destroy the values that middle America holds dear.
“Among Republicans, he’s a beloved figure. He’s right now in the Republican universe a martyr – and there ain’t nothing they want more than a martyr,” Wilson added.
After the 2020 election GOP donors floated Carlson as the logical successor to Donald Trump’s movement.
Carlson denied any interest in running for president as recently as earlier this year when he told Ben Smith — co-founder of the Communist Chinese-linked Semafor — that he harbored no White House ambitions because he loved his job as a talk show host which allowed him to speak truths others in the corporate press could not.
“I have zero ambition, not just politically, but in life,” Carlson told Smith. “My ambition is to write my script by 8 p.m. … I don’t want power, I’ve never wanted power — I’m annoyed by things, I want them to change — but I’ve never been motivated by a desire to control people.”
“I’m not running,” Carlson continued. “I’m a talk show host! And I enjoy my job, by the way. What a blessing it is to say what you really think. Only women can get pregnant, I dare you to say that.”
But Carlson is no longer boxed in by his commitment to Fox News.
Will that newfound career freedom cause Carlson to change his mind and run for president?
Some on the left are worried about that possibility.
