As soon as news broke that Fox fired Tucker Carlson speculation soon mounted that Carlson would involve himself in the 2024 presidential election.
The rumors were true.
And you’ll be speechless when you see what Trump and Tucker Carlson have planned for 2024.
Tucker Carlson is looking to negotiate his way out of his Fox News contract.
Carlson is reportedly willing to forfeit millions of dollars if it means he can immediately get back on the air either on another network or starting up his own digital media empire.
And Carlson wants his first move to be a Republican primary presidential debate.
Donald Trump — who is furious at the Republican National Committee — wants in.
The Washington Post reports:
Carlson and his team have discussed the possibility of moderating a candidate forum outside of the traditional protocols surrounding the GOP primary debate system, according to two people familiar with the considerations. These people said the setup — as well as Carlson’s availability to take on that kind of role, given the noncompete constraints of his contract with Fox — remain unclear. But Carlson has personally expressed enthusiasm about the idea, according to people familiar with his comments. At least one major candidate — Trump — has told Carlson he’s interested, according to a person familiar with the exchange.
The former Fox host’s interest in a debate is said to stem in part from its potential to loosen the Republican National Committee’s grip on the process, as well as to challenge the role traditionally played by the major television networks. “He could go straight to the candidates, stream it live, invite the networks but maintain control over the process,” said one person familiar with the discussions.
The first Republican Party presidential debate is scheduled for Fox News in August.
Fox’s ratings are down 30 percent since firing Carlson and the network is counting on the GOP primary — and the ratings bonanza from the candidate debates — to recover the lost viewers.
But Trump is thinking about skipping the debate because of his huge lead in the polls and his anger at Fox News over Rupert Murdoch wanting to use the network to defeat him in the primary.
Many suspect Murdoch’s desire to use Fox News to move past Trump played a large role in the decision to fire Carlson.
But Trump and Carlson could get the last laugh.
If Trump pulls out of the Fox debate and intends to instead attend a contest moderated by Carlson on another platform it could force the other GOP hopefuls to pull out of the Fox News debate as well as their only chance to claw their way back into the race in a face-to-face confrontation with Trump.
