The feud between Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell is growing.
Now, the battle is heating up after Donald Trump just cast down the gauntlet on McConnell.
And it’s all because Trump just said four words that could mark the end of McConnell’s political career.
There’s no love lost between Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell.
With the president and Senate Republican leader butting heads on everything from policy to personality, it’s clear that McConnell is the worst possible candidate to lead Senate Republicans as long as Trump continues to serve as the standard bearer of the GOP nationwide.
That’s because McConnell is a weak leader who refuses to fight the Left, preferring instead to work out compromises with leftists like Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden rather than fighting for conservative principles.
And now, Trump just crossed a point of no return by calling for McConnell’s ousting as Senate Republican leader.
The Daily Mail reports, “Donald Trump demanded that Republicans replace Mitch McConnell as their Senate leader in a brutal statement.
“The former president accused McConnell of being a ‘pawn’ for Democrats and said his inaction is causing moves in Congress ‘our Country can never recover from’.
“He also claimed that McConnell got ‘rich’ off of decades of business with China and said a new Republican Senate leader should be chosen.”
Trump’s statement pulls no punches.
“’Mitch McConnell is not an Opposition Leader, he is a pawn for the Democrats to get whatever they want,’ the former president wrote in a Wednesday statement. ‘He is afraid of them, and will not do what has to be done. A new Republican Leader in the Senate should be picked immediately!’”
In just four words, Trump effectively declared war on Mitch McConnell, severing all past ties between the two by calling for his removal as head of the party in the upper chamber of Congress.
What’s more, Trump is also calling out the weak leadership of McConnell, who has stood by and done nothing while Democrats rammed through one of the worst inflation-accelerating bills in modern history.
“Trump says if McConnell doesn’t push to use the ‘debt ceiling card’ to stop expensive spending, including on the Green New Deal, the country will plunge into a depression,” adds The Daily Mail.
It’s clear that Trump has completely lost faith in McConnell’s ability to fight the Left.
And it isn’t hard to see why.
That’s because McConnell has betrayed Republicans time and time again by caving to the Left when the going gets tough, or refusing to fight when the chips are down.
Trump has had enough of McConnell’s rule over the Senate, and that’s why he’s now calling on other Republican senators to pick a new leader.
However, it remains to be seen whether the rest of the Republican Senate Caucus will agree with this plan, especially with several other “Republicans in name only” serving in the upper chamber of Congress.
