When President Trump selected J.D. Vance as his running mate, everyone assumed that made Vance the heir apparent to the MAGA movement.
But now all hell is breaking loose across Washington.
And that’s because Trump just dropped one big bombshell about J.D. Vance’s future.
One of the big parlor games in Washington is who will succeed Donald Trump as the leader of the Republican Party.
Many establishment Republicans are secretly trying to sabotage Vance and elevate Rubio by leaking stories to the press that Trump is souring on Vance.
A recent New York Times story headlined “Is JD Vance the 2028 Front Runner? Trump Has Questions.” was planted by anti-Vance leaders to undermine Vance.
But President Trump put all this talk to rest by revealing his true feelings in an interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine.
“We have a lot of talent,” Trump said when the subject of 2028 came up.
Devine then asked Trump about Vance and Rubio.
Trump praised both and offered up his hope that the two would run as a ticket and notably named Vance first when he suggested the two team up.
“Good. They’re both very talented. They’re both great. Well, I like them both, and I like them together. You know, it would be great. I don’t know how you beat them if they’re together. That would be a great team. JD and Marco would be a great team,” Trump added.
Devine picked up that Trump putting Vance’s name before Rubio’s showed Trump preferred Vance at the top of the ticket and wondered if Rubio being older than Vance meant anything, as Vance would be 44 in 2028, which would make him one of the youngest nominees in history.
Trump shrugged off any age concerns and said the two first had to agree to run as a ticket even though they both got along well.
“I don’t know. You know, they have to agree to it, right? You know, we have a long time left. We have more than two and a half years. Substantially more than two and a half years,” Trump continued.
“Well, not a lot older, but he’s older, but they’re both young guys. I mean, they’re both very talented. They get along really well,” Trump added.
And in yet another hint that Trump is setting up to cut off any GOP primary by endorsing a Vance-Rubio ticket, Trump said he was watching to see how the two get along together.
“I watch them all the time. I mean, I study them as they’re with each other; I find it very interesting,” Trump concluded.
Polls show Vance is by far and away the 2028 GOP frontrunner with Rubio running second.

The two are reportedly very good friends, and Rubio is on record as saying that if Vance runs for President in 2028, he would be the first one to endorse him.
“J.D. is a very good friend of mine. If J.D. runs for president, I think he’d be a phenomenal candidate,” Rubio declared.
“I’ve said publicly, and I’ll say it again, I’ll be the first person to sign up and support him. I think J.D. would do great,” Rubio added.
And that looksl ike it would check every box for Trump to offer his public endorsement to a Vance-Rubio ticket.
