The Democrat Party has a massive scandal on its hands.
Its fallout is only now beginning to be understood.
And a leak about this closed-door meeting is the beginning of the end for one top Democrat.
Former frontrunner Elizabeth Warren is watching her campaign slowly implode.
Grassroots Democrats are uniting behind socialist Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders which led to Sanders surpassing Warren in the polls of the key early states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
With just weeks left before the first vote in Iowa, Warren is getting desperate.
And in a last ditch effort to halt Sanders momentum Warren and her campaign leaked a story to fake news CNN claiming Sanders told Warren in a private meeting in 2018 that Sanders did not think a woman could win the Presidential election.
CNN exclusively reports:
The two agreed that if they ultimately faced each other as presidential candidates, they should remain civil and avoid attacking one another, so as not to hurt the progressive movement. They also discussed how to best take on President Donald Trump, and Warren laid out two main reasons she believed she would be a strong candidate: She could make a robust argument about the economy and earn broad support from female voters.
Sanders responded that he did not believe a woman could win.
The description of that meeting is based on the accounts of four people: two people Warren spoke with directly soon after the encounter, and two people familiar with the meeting.
Sanders strongly denied these allegations and accused Warren staffers that were not in the room of lying about their conversation.
“It is ludicrous to believe that at the same meeting where Elizabeth Warren told me she was going to run for president, I would tell her that a woman couldn’t win,” Sanders told fake news CNN. “It’s sad that, three weeks before the Iowa caucus and a year after that private conversation, staff who weren’t in the room are lying about what happened. What I did say that night was that Donald Trump is a sexist, a racist and a liar who would weaponize whatever he could. Do I believe a woman can win in 2020? Of course! After all, Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump by 3 million votes in 2016.”
Warren later released a statement claiming that while she was still friends with Sanders and had no desire to continue this fight, she claimed Sanders told Warren that “he disagreed” with her assessment that a woman could beat Trump.
Warren’s play here is clear.
Young liberals that support Sanders highly value identity politics and their status as being “woke.”
Warren is betting that these voters will abandon Sanders for perceived sexist comments and “mansplaining” to Warren why she could not win.
The leak came the day before the final Democrat debate and the biggest beneficiary is former Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden is rising in the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire and now Sanders and Warren will bog each other down in a squabble over this meeting instead of training their fire on Biden.
