Americans finally saw the smoking gun.
It’s bad news for Dr. Fauci.
And that’s because this bombshell document leak could have Dr. Fauci facing criminal charges.
Dr. Fauci’s previously testified under oath that the National Institutes of Health never funded gain-of-function research of coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The National Institutes of Health funding research about studying making coronaviruses more transmissible from animals to humans took on added importance as piles of evidence emerged pointing to the fact that the coronavirus pandemic began with a lab accident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
But the liberal outlet The Intercept obtained 900 pages of documents as part of a Freedom of Information Act request that calls the truthfulness of Dr. Fauci’s testimony into question.
According to the documents, EcoHealth Alliance – who Fauci oversaw receiving a grant of $600,000 in taxpayer money – funneled millions of dollars to the Wuhan Institute of Virology to study the creation of new novel coronaviruses and to alter existing bat coronaviruses.
The Intercept exclusively reports:
The bat coronavirus grant provided the EcoHealth Alliance with a total of $3.1 million, including $599,000 that the Wuhan Institute of Virology used in part to identify and alter bat coronaviruses likely to infect humans. Even before the pandemic, many scientists were concerned about the potential dangers associated with such experiments.
The grant proposal acknowledges some of those dangers: “Fieldwork involves the highest risk of exposure to SARS or other CoVs, while working in caves with high bat density overhead and the potential for fecal dust to be inhaled.”
Rutgers University molecular biologist Richard Ebright – a critic of gain-of-function research – posted on social media that the reporting proved that the National Institutes of Health – working through EcoHealth Alliance – funded the dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“The materials show that the 2014 and 2019 NIH grants to EcoHealth with subcontracts to WIV funded gain-of-function research as defined in federal policies in effect in 2014-2017 and potential pandemic pathogen enhancement as defined in federal policies in effect in 2017-present,” Ebright wrote.
The papers also showed that the gain-of-function research conducted on lab-made coronaviruses found them to be more pathogenic to “humanized mice” than the original strand of the virus.
When Dr. Fauci first testified that the National Institutes of Health did not fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology it appeared like Fauci walked a fine line on perjuring himself by trying to split hairs on the definition of gain-of-function research.
But this new smoking gun – in the form of 900 pages of previously unreleased documents – led to calls from Republicans like Missouri Senator Josh Hawley to resign as this reporting could show that Dr. Fauci allegedly helped fund the creation of the pandemic.
That – however – could just be the tip of the iceberg as others will call for Fauci to face perjury charges.
