Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign hit another major stumbling block.
Ever since declaring his candidacy for president DeSantis’s White House bid was beset by bloopers.
And now Ron DeSantis got some bad news that is about to change everything.
The full extent of Ron DeSantis’s disappointing fundraising efforts is now coming into focus.
With polls showing DeSantis trailing Trump by as much as 43 points the DeSantis campaign fired an additional 26 staffers as donors and grassroots activists are increasingly rejecting DeSantis’s pitch.
The campaign announced it let an additional 26 staffers go – bringing the total number of layoffs to a staggering 38 – as DeSantis failed to meet fundraising expectations in the wake of disappointing fundraising numbers.
“Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden,” campaign manager Generra Peck announced. “Gov. DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign.”
DeSantis raised $14 million of his $20 million haul from high-dollar donors looking for the most viable horse to defeat Donald Trump.
But those donors cannot contribute again.
DeSantis raised just 15 percent of his money from donors giving less than $200 meaning DeSantis has little support among the conservative grassroots activists that fuel campaigns.
That led to the campaign admitting it needed a reset.
As DeSantis tried to lean into the reboot, another unforced error befell the campaign.
Major donor Hal Lambert claimed the campaign’s strategy was for Joe Biden’s Justice Department to force Trump out of the race with indictments.
“Lambert also said that the likelihood of additional Trump indictments will impact the trajectory of the race, and that he thinks at least ‘there is a possibility’ Trump’s legal troubles make it so he must drop out of the race,” an NBC report stated.
“If another indictment out of D.C. comes,” Lambert stated, “for example, I could see them fast-tracking that before the end of the year.”
Trump senior advisor Jason Miller slammed the DeSantis campaign for rooting for indictments against Trump.
“It’s really surprising to see them say the quiet part out loud,” Miller said in an interview with POLITICO. “We’ve heard that the DeSanctimonious people, when their strategists are talking to reporters off the record or on background, have long said that if only a political meteor strikes the earth that there might be a chance or a pathway for them going forward.”
The first votes won’t be cast in Iowa for nearly six months.
DeSantis is still in second place and the second most popular candidate in the race.
The Florida governor also possesses an impressive record of conservative achievements.
There is a small window for DeSantis to pull the nose up.
But running against Donald Trump is proving to be a far more difficult challenge than anyone expected.
