Robert Mueller had one trick up his sleeve to impeach President Trump.
But it turned out his ace in the hole was a dud.
And Robert Mueller just suffered the most humiliating defeat of his life.
Robert Mueller and the rest of the Washington swamp comforted themselves that although there was no evidence of a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, they had a backup plan to get rid of the President firmly in place.
Mueller referred former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen to prosecutors in the Southern District of New York on financial and campaign finance crimes.
Prosecutors squeezed Cohen until Cohen admitted to making hush money payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal in 2016 after they claimed affairs with Donald Trump nearly a decade ago.
Cohen admitted to violating campaign finance reporting laws and doing so at Donald Trump’s direction.
This guilty plea crash landed like an extinction level event asteroid.
Reporters breathlessly speculated that prosecutors would indict the President if he was defeated for re-election.
Democrats lined up investigations believing impeachment was just around the corner.
But just like the Russian collusion hoax, the supposed campaign finance scandal ended with a whimper.
Federal prosecutors announced the case was closed and that no one else in the Trump Organization would face criminal charges.
Trump attorney Jay Sekulow celebrated the news.
“We are pleased that the investigation surrounding these ridiculous campaign finance allegations is now closed,” Sekulow declared. “We have maintained from the outset that the President never engaged in any campaign finance violation.”
As American Patriot Daily previously reported, this outcome was inevitable.
For Trump to have broken the law he would have had to have known his conduct was illegal and he would have had to have made these payments only because he was running for office.
Neither of those things were true.
Now that this fake scandal blew up in the Democrats’ faces, they are left scrambling to make lemonade out of lemons.
Democrats immediately switched gears to demand to know if the Department of Justice only dropped the case because they could not indict a sitting President.
“If prosecutors identified evidence of criminal conduct by Donald Trump while serving as President — and did not bring charges as they would have for any other individual — this would be the second time the President has not been held accountable for his actions due to his position,” Oversight and Reform chairman Elijah Cummings thundered in a letter to prosecutors. “The Office of the President should not be used as a shield for criminal conduct.”
Cummings wants the DOJ to hand over all documents regarding evidence collected against anyone in the hush money payments as well as regarding Attorney General William Barr’s role in closing the investigation.
This is likely another dead end.
Not only will prosecutors not bring charges against President Trump, but they will not make a criminal case against any other Trump Organization executive that signed off on the payments or how they were recorded.
This is a complete and total defeat for Robert Mueller as well as Democrats counting on a criminal conspiracy to mark as the basis for impeachment.
