Chuck Schumer thought he played a winning hand.
Democrats ran with the accusations that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted multiple women in order to kill his nomination.
But these brand new polls about Kavanaugh and the election has Chuck Schumer running for his life.
Schumer’s Plan To Sink Kavanaugh Failed
Republicans confirmed Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on a 50-48 vote.
Conservatives now own a majority on the court that could last a generation.
But Democrats thought they had still extracted a pound of political flesh.
They believed Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations would make Kavanaugh so toxic that women would flock to the polls to vote the GOP out of office.
Democrats only need to win two seats to take control of the Senate.
Republicans are likely to flip the North Dakota seat red.
And with Democrats in strong positions to beat anti-Trump Republicans in Arizona and Nevada, Schumer hunted around for one more red state seat to win.
They settled on Texas and Tennessee.
Polls Show Doom For Democrats
Democrats thought they lined up quality challengers in Tennessee and Texas.
In Tennessee, they recruited former Governor Phil Bredesen to run against Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn.
Democrat Congressman Beto O’Rourke jumped into the race against Senator Ted Cruz in Texas.
Schumer and other liberals believed Bredesen’s moderate record would propel him to victory.
And the Democrat base pumped tens of millions of dollars into O’Rourke’s campaign after a series of staged videos went viral highlighting O’Rourke’s “cool” authenticity.
But the Democrats dreams of flipping one or both of those seats are crashing and burning.
The latest CBS/YouGov polls showed Blackburn leading Bredesen by eight points and Cruz on top of O’Rourke by six.
Republicans saw a polling bounce in races across the country after the Kavanaugh confirmation fight.
CBS and YouGov took these polls from October 2-5, just days before the Kavanaugh confirmation vote.
They re-elected the trend of voters moving toward the GOP after witnessing the Democrats disgraceful smear campaign against Judge Kavanaugh.
Democrats Fight To Recover From Schumer’s Mistake
55 percent of voters said the Kavanaugh fight made them more likely to vote.
In deep red states like Texas and Tennessee, this spells doom for Democrats.
That’s why Bredesen raced to put out a statement claiming he would have voted for Kavanaugh.
“Presidents have the right to appoint justices who share their values — elections have consequences. I believe a Senator’s responsibility to ‘advise and consent’ is not a license to indulge in partisanship, but should focus on the qualifications of the nominee, their ethics and their temperament,” Bredesen said.
“I believed that Judge Kavanaugh initially met this test, and I was prepared to say ‘yes’ to his nomination prior to Dr. Ford’s coming forward,” Bredesen wrote. “While the subsequent events make it a much closer call, and I am missing key pieces of information that a sitting Senator has, I’m still a ‘yes.’”
But voters aren’t buying what Bredesen is selling.
They know if he wins, Chuck Schumer runs the Senate.
And that means Democrats will block the vote on any Trump nominee.
