The GOP establishment is actively sabotaging the midterm election.
Their treachery is out in the open.
And one sickening act of betrayal will leave Trump mad as hell.
Trump endorsed Texas State Attorney General Ken Paxton in his primary against RINO incumbent Senator John Cornyn.
Paxton predictably crushed Cornyn.
Every day since the primary, it’s become more evident that Trump was right to endorse Paxton over Cornyn.
Cornyn supported amnesty for illegal aliens, a blank check for Joe Biden’s war in Ukraine, and gun control.
And Cornyn apparently staffed his office with Democrats to help him push that leftist agenda.
Cornyn’s deputy legislative director and policy adviser, Jacob Smith, is now working for Paxton’s Democratic opponent James Talarico as the campaign’s deputy policy director.
“I’ve worked for Republicans like Senator Cornyn my entire career, but this year I’m proud to be joining James Talarico’s campaign,” a statement from Smith read. “Instead of playing partisan politics, Talarico speaks to the needs of everyday people who day in and day out work too hard for too little. In the Senate, James will fight to lower costs for all 31 million Texans, whether they’re Republicans, Democrats, or independents, so that Texans of all ages have a fighting chance at the American Dream of starting a family, owning a home, and leaving a little behind for their children.”
Smith then launched a personal attack on Paxton and called for Republicans to elect Talarico even though Talarico says the Bible is pro-abortion, that he “loves” transgender kids, and that the border should have a “welcome mat” for illegal aliens, and the top policy aide for a Republican Senator is now working for him.
“Ken Paxton is the most corrupt, self-dealing politician in Texas who would sell their future to the highest contributor just to hold onto power,” Smith added. “I’m encouraging all my fellow Republicans who know Ken Paxton is unfit to serve in the Senate to finally hold him accountable at the ballot box.”
Smith’s defection and the fact that Cornyn employed him demonstrated once again to Republican voters that the party establishment can’t be trusted and that they are more comfortable passing Democrat bills than fighting for the Trump America First agenda.
Even political pros were stunned by Smith’s switching sides.
“That is unheard of,” a seasoned Senate campaign operative said of Smith’s move.
Polls show Talarico leading Paxton by a narrow margin, and Smith’s fellow establishment Republicans aren’t shy about the fact that they would rather see a Democrat win in Texas than a pro-Trump conservative out of anger over the primary result.
The National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee is refusing to spend one dime helping Paxton.
Establishment Republicans in Texas are sitting on their hands as well.
“What you will see is a lot of Republicans sit out the top of the ticket,” a Texas Republican operative said to NOTUS. “I don’t necessarily think you’ll see a lot of Republicans pull the trigger for Talarico because he’s so liberal and his ideas are so outside the mainstream, but they can’t stomach voting for Paxton. That’s his biggest weakness in the state.”
President Trump’s MAGA Inc. Super PAC is about to unleash its $400 million war chest to paint and pummel Talarico with ads portraying him as too liberal and too weird for Texas.
The question in this race is whether that money and Texas’ Republican lean can overcome the GOP establishment’s sabotage.
