Nancy Pelosi has been fighting a losing battle.
And after trying to make cover for Ilhan Omar, things only got worse.
These comments are now blowing up in Nancy Pelosi’s face.
Nancy Pelosi is governing a slow-moving train wreck.
Her party is setting the United States capital on fire and watching as their chances in 2020 crash and burn.
But Pelosi isn’t done just yet.
She’s still trying to fight the losing battle by defending fellow Democrat Ilhan Omar, who has emerged as the most vocal anti-Semite in Congress after just two months on the job.
But Pelosi’s defense of Omar may have gone too far.
After Omar’s comments finally seemed to catch up with her, action was demanded by both Republicans and Democrats.
A resolution was crafted to condemn Omar’s attacks on Jewish people and the State of Israel, only to have the language watered down at the 11th hour by Pelosi herself, who chose to not mention Omar or her rhetoric by name in the resolution.
That was a horrifically awful decision.
Not only did it give ammunition to Republicans who now have reason to attack the Democrats as the party of anti-Semitism, but it outraged some fellow Democrats, many of whom represent large Jewish districts or are themselves Jewish, and who felt Omar’s comments were out of line.
Pelosi made no friends and only engaged people across the political spectrum when she tried to give Omar political cover.
And comments from one Republican Jewish lawmaker are now blowing up in Pelosi’s face as she faces a backlash unlike anything she’s seen since taking office as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Breitbart reports, “Sunday on New York AM 970 radio’s “The Cats Roundtable,” Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) commented on the House resolution to condemn hate in response to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) numerous antisemitic remarks.”
Zeldin is himself Jewish and he was one of many members of Congress who were deeply outraged by Omar’s seemingly endless attacks on Jewish people and on Israel.
“The Jewish Republican blasted the House Democrats, saying if Omar were a Republican, the resolution would have named her specifically for her antisemitism, much it like it did for Rep. Steve King (R-IA) in a resolution in January,” added Breitbart.
Zeldin took no prisoners in his comments.
“In January, the House nearly unanimously voted to condemn white supremacy, naming a Republican member, removing that Republican member from his committee assignments,” Zeldin said, referring to Republican Steve King who ended up in hot water over his comments about White Supremacy.
“Now, after one antisemitic comment after another by this Democratic Member of Congress, instead of a resolution naming names and singularly, emphatically, unequivocally condemning antisemitism, and removing that Member from the House Foreign Affairs Committee; instead you had a resolution that kept getting diluted and watered down and filled with moral equivalency, which is dangerous,” Zeldin said.
The comments were a bombshell.
In just a few words, he exposed Pelosi to be the political hack she is.
Omar got a pass because of her political party.
If she had been a Republican, Democrats would have moved heaven and earth to condemn her remarks, and they would have done so on record via a House resolution, by naming her and her remarks word for word.
But they did none of this because Omar is a Democrat.
Do you think Omar should apologize?
