Nancy Pelosi is outraged.
The Mueller report was supposed to destroy President Trump and it only made him stronger.
And now she’s locked in a battle with Trump’s Attorney General that he can’t hope to win.
Democrats across the country were looking forward to the Mueller report.
And no one was more excited than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who would have relished at the thought of being the one to remove Trump from power.
But instead of delivering on what they were hoping for, Democrats were stunned to learn that the Mueller report not only cleared Trump of any wrongdoing in the 2016 elections, but it left him stronger than ever.
Now it’s clear there was no Russian collusion, and Democrats were left without any plan B to act on.
So out of desperation, Pelosi’s allies in Congress began to fire off shots in all directions.
And the two men they’re targeting the most right now are Robert Mueller himself, and Trump’s Attorney General William Barr.
Democrats are attacking Mueller for not following through with taking down Trump, demanding that he testify before their committees in the House of Representatives over the Mueller report.
And at the same time, they’re also attacking William Barr, going so far as to vote to hold him in contempt of Congress and issuing subpoenas against the Justice Department which he currently runs.
But this approach of firing off at everything that moves is likely going to backfire on Pelosi.
The Daily Caller reports, “House Democrats may have damaged their chances of getting special counsel Robert Mueller to testify following the Wednesday contempt charge vote against Attorney General Bill Barr in the House Judiciary Committee.”
And the Justice Department is already firing back, hinting that Pelosi may have gambled and lost on all fronts.
“The only side who has made accommodations is the Attorney General, who made extraordinary efforts to provide Congress and the public with information about the Special Counsel’s work,” the DOJ said in a statement. Barr cannot “comply with the House Judiciary Committee’s subpoena without violating the law, court rules, and court orders.”
“President Donald Trump said Thursday afternoon he would leave it up to Barr to decide whether Mueller could testify before Congress about the Russia investigation,” adds the Daily Caller. “Trump previously tweeted he did not want Mueller to testify before Congress, but the contempt charge vote seems to have changed the circumstances.”
Democrats are just now beginning to realize what a mistake it was to demand Mueller’s testimony at the same time that they attack Barr, Mueller’s boss and the man who controls whether or not he testifies.
“As a result of Trump’s announcement, Barr could order the Justice Department not to allow Mueller to testify if the Democrats decide to take the contempt charge against him to the floor for a vote,” adds the Daily Caller.
Do you think Barr should withhold Mueller’s testimony to Democrats?
