Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser and her lawyer just got some bad news.
Congress is accusing them of lying under oath.
And they just got a document that could land them both behind bars.
Senate Judiciary Committee Refers Kavanaugh Accuser And Her Lawyer For Criminal Prosecution
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley referred Kavanaugh accuser Julie Swetnick and her lawyer Michael Avenatti – the creepy porn lawyer – for criminal prosecution.
Grassley said Swetnick’s false allegations which Avenatti presented in a sworn declaration—which carries the penalty of lying to Congress—violated three different laws.
The Senate Judiciary Committees official twitter account tweeted:
Chairman @ChuckGrassley today referred Julie Swetnick and her attorney Michael Avenatti to @TheJusticeDept for criminal investigation relating to a potential conspiracy to provide materially false statements to Congress and obstruct a congressional committee investigation.
The Committee tweeted out the three criminal statutes Chairman Grassley believed Avenatti and Swetnick violated:
The letter notes potential violations of 18 U.S.C. §§ 371, 1001 and 1505, which respectively define the federal criminal offenses of conspiracy, false statements and obstruction of Congress.
In addition, the committee described how Swetnick and Avenatti obstructed their investigation:
The referral methodically details the issues with Swetnick’s allegations as relayed by Avenatti, the immediate diversion of committee resources to investigate those allegations, the subsequent contradictions by both Swetnick and Avenatti,…
…the lack of substantiating or corroborating evidence, and the overarching and serious credibility problems pervading the presentation of these allegations.
Michael Avenatti’s Former Allies Turn On Him
Avenatti’s former allies in the media also turned on him.
NBC – which aired the interview with Swetnick where she changed her story – published a piece claiming they knew Swetnick was lying before they put her on the air.
They also accused Avenatti of lying to their reporters and twisting another woman’s words.
NBC also reported that Avenatti tweeted out a sworn statement by a second woman on September 30th to back up Swetnick’s claims.
The woman claimed in the sworn statement that she saw Brett Kavanaugh drug the punch at parties so girls could be gang raped.
It read, “During the years 1981-82, I witnessed firsthand Brett Kavanaugh, together with others, ‘spike’ the ‘punch’ at house parties I attended with Quaaludes and/or grain alcohol. I understood this was being done for the purpose of making girls more likely to engage in sexual acts and less likely to say ‘No.'”
But two days later, NBC interviewed her over the phone and she told their reporters “I didn’t ever think it was Brett.”
The woman also told NBC she never saw Kavanaugh act inappropriately towards women.
She also sent NBC a text that read, “It is incorrect that I saw Brett spike the punch. I didn’t see anyone spike the punch…I was very clear with Michael Avenatti from day one.”
Michael Avenatti Responds
NBC asked Avenatti about these inconsistencies in early October.
“I have no idea what you are talking about,” he responded to NBC via text message. “I have a signed declaration that states otherwise together with multiple audio recordings where she stated exactly what is in the declaration. There were also multiple witnesses to our discussions.”
“I just confirmed with her yet again that everything in the declaration is true and correct,” Avenatti said. “She must have been confused by your question,” Avenatti stated in a second text message.
But what happened next raised even more eyebrows.
NBC reported the woman responded five minutes after Avenatti’s text with one of her own.
“Please understand that everything in the declaration is true and you should not contact me anymore regarding this issue,” she stated.
However, that was not the end of the story.
NBC followed up with a phone call and she once again stated she never saw Kavanaugh spike the punch at parties nor act inappropriately towards women.
Critics blasted NBC for holding this report until after the Senate confirmed Kavanaugh.
They sat on a story for weeks that proved Kavanaugh was innocent.
They believe it proves NBC is part of the opposition party and fake news.
