Joe Biden’s days as the frontrunner of the Democratic primary may be numbered.
And there are signs that his campaign is already beginning to collapse.
Biden’s downfall, however, may be because of one completely avoidable move that left heads spinning.
Joe Biden announced his campaign for the White House in 2020 and immediately saw himself catapulted to the top of the Democratic primary field.
Biden’s near meteoric rise to dominance over the Democratic electorate made it seem like it was only a matter of time before he locked up the nomination.
But things have begun to unravel.
Biden’s campaign hasn’t been able to clear the field like he hoped.
In fact, the Democratic field has only grown since Biden got into the race.
Making matters worse, Biden now has a new problem on his hands.
Breitbart reports, “Sunday on CBS’s ‘Face The Nation,’ Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said former Vice President Joe Biden should apologize for his comments about working with segregationist.”
This all began when Biden was trying to tout his legislative credentials in the Senate to make the argument for why he was best prepared to be the Democratic nominee and eventually be elected President.
And instead, the move completely blew up in his face.
Democrats are now scrambling with one another to take shots at Biden.
“Well look, Joe was a friend of mine as John is a friend of mine, all that I- all that I say is that I think Joe owes the country an apology on that and that it is one thing to work with people in the Senate as you have to do, as every senator does, I do, with people who have fundamental disagreements with. That’s one thing. You do that,” Senator Sanders said.
Sanders continued: “That’s your job, but it’s another thing to kind of extol that those relationships and also to see civility in a sense as an end unto itself. We all want civil discourse in this country. But that’s not the end. You cannot be extolling people who really were part of a disgusting system that oppressed and terrorized millions of African-Americans in this country.”
Biden just made a massive error that could cost him the entire nomination.
Democrats are not going to let this go, and Sanders’ comments about Biden are just the beginning of the public relations disaster the Biden campaign has found itself in.
It’s unlikely this mess will clear up anytime soon either.
And the longer it drags on, the more damage it could inflict on the Biden campaign.
While Sanders himself eventually argued that Biden is not a racist in the interview he gave, other Democratic candidates who did not serve in the Senate with Biden like Sanders did, may not be so kind.
The personal attacks that could be leveled against Biden could end up weakening him in the general election as well, should Biden still prevail and win the nomination.
That would obviously open up huge possibilities for President Trump’s own 2020 campaign.
