Elements within the Republican Party still plot behind closed doors to sabotage President Trump’s re-election campaign.
These Never Trump traitors were lying in wait for the right time to strike.
Now Jeff Sessions may be about to stick a knife in Trump’s back for an awful reason.
Establishment Republicans would rather see a Democrat in the White House than Donald Trump win re-election and achieve conservative policy victories.
The latest “front man” for the Never Trump movement is former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci.
For the last several weeks Scaramucci practically lived on CNN’s New York set slamming the President for making racist remarks and predicting Trump would drop out of the race by March.
But on his most recent appearance on CNN’s “New Day” morning show, Scaramucci detailed a plan to defeat President Trump in the Republican Primary.
Scaramucci told host Alisyn Camerota that a Trump challenger could skip the traditional early state caucuses and primaries in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada and instead target the larger, delegate-rich states later in the contest.
“The good news is you have until November, but you can really skip over the states of Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina and you can work on the bigger states. You can start winning delegates from some of the biggest states that are sour on the president,” Scaramucci stated.
After laying out his battle plan Scaramucci moved to the most newsworthy aspect of his interview – namely that he planned to recruit former Trump cabinet officials to speak out against the President’s re-election.
The former White House Communications Director went on to explain that “I’m in the process of putting together a team of people that feel the exact same way that I do. This is not a ‘Never Trump’ situation. This not just screeching rhetoric. This is — Okay, the guy is unstable. Everyone inside knows it, everyone outside knows it. Let’s see if we can find a viable alternative. Moreover, I have to get some former Cabinet officials in unity to speak up about it. They know it’s a crisis.”
Pundits and Trump supporters immediately speculated that Scaramucci was speaking of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Former Defense Secretary James Mattis was another name political observers thought might speak, but Mattis has said he will not discuss his dealings with a sitting President out of respect for the office so that eliminates Mattis.
But Sessions was the first Senator to endorse the President.
And President Trump and Sessions experienced a very public falling out when Sessions outrageously recused himself from the Russia investigation.
Sessions’ act of weakness directly led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel and the President believes Sessions’ recusal set in motion events that helped to cripple his Presidency’s momentum.
But would Sessions try to take down Trump as an act of revenge?
