Vice President JD Vance is President Trump’s most loyal defender.
That’s a stark contrast from Mike Pence.
And JD Vance sounded alarm bells over one disturbing Trump phone call.
Vance discussed America’s relationship with Israel during an interview with CBS.
America’s alliance with Israel is facing increasing skepticism among the broader public after Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza and America’s war with Iran.
A recent Gallup poll found that 70 percent of Americans under the age of 50 hold an unfavorable view of Israel, and that the favorability rating for Israel has even dropped 17 points among Republicans since 2020.
President Trump went to war with Iran to prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon, whereas Israel’s goal was regime change and collapsing the Iranian state, goals that could entrap America in a forever war like the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Vance explained that while America and Israel are allies, it doesn’t mean their interests always align.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu, look, he governs a country that has obviously been a very close partner of the United States. But, even when we’ve been close partners, sometimes we have interests that are perfectly aligned, and sometimes we have interests that are misaligned,” Vance stated.
Vance told CBS that in the instances where America’s and Israel’s interests didn’t match up, President Trump would always choose to put the American people first.
“Sometimes that means we’re on the same page and sometimes it means that we’re not,” Vance added, “where that diverges, we, unfortunately for the Israelis, have to choose the side of the American people, which we always do.”
Vance said that didn’t mean Israel wasn’t an ally, but that Americans elected President Trump to look out for them, and that’s exactly how Trump would carry out his duties in office.
“But what I would say is that he’s been a good partner,” Vance said. “We’re gonna keep on working together. But where interests diverge, the United States is gonna pursue the best interests of our nation, and that’s how it’s gonna be.”
Vance’s comments came after a phone call between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which Trump tore into Netanyahu for seeking to continue a military campaign in Lebanon that threatened to torpedo talks with Iran to bring that war to a close.
“You’re ******** crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this,” Axios reported Trump telling Netanyahu.
Trump confirmed the contents of the call with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, where Trump recounted how he told Netanyahu that it was time to wrap the war up even though Netanyahu had his own goals for the conflict’s outcome.
“I did,” Trump stated. “I wouldn’t say angry. I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon, you know.”
“At some point I said, Bibi, we got to stop this. We got to stop it,” Trump concluded.
