Ilhan Omar’s past is about to catch up with her.
The controversial freshmen Democrat’s scandal-plagued career is attracting new attention.
And Ilhan Omar was busted in a disturbing crime that will make your skin crawl.
Since entering Congress, scandal has consumed Omar’s career.
Omar has hurled multiple anti-Semitic slurs.
The Minnesota Democrat was caught on camera minimizing the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
But her latest crisis takes the cake.
That’s because it involves criminal activity.
And it is serious enough to lead to Omar’s deportation.
When Omar ran for Congress in 2018, critics raised the issue that her suspicious marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009 constituted as immigration fraud because Elmi was her brother.
The marriage was later dissolved, but Omar filed joint tax returns with Elmi from 2009 to 2017.
This is where critics also accuse Omar of committing tax fraud.
In 2014 and 2015, Omar filed joint tax returns with a man named Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi – who is now her current husband.
It is illegal under state and federal law for someone to jointly file taxes when they are not married.
And this can result in criminal charges if the individual intended to illegally file their taxes jointly with the intention to cheat on their taxes owed.
Omar’s tax returns are not public, so there is no way to verify this information.
But this raises another question.
Democrats are demanding Donald Trump’s tax returns with no allegations of cheating on his income tax.
They just want to see if there is any politically embarrassing information in his returns they can deploy in the 2020 campaign.
The same obscure 1920s law the Democrats are claiming gives them access to President Trump’s returns could be used to access Omar’s.
Afterall, marrying her brother and committing tax and immigration fraud not only goes against the laws of the United States, but against nature itself.
These are serious charges against Omar.
And they deserve a thorough and fair investigation.
An easy way to solve this mystery would be for House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal to use the same law he deployed against President Trump to gain access to Omar’s tax returns.
If there is a con-artist serving in Congress, the American people need to know.
The law does not mandate that Neal make the tax returns public.
As a show of good faith and fairness, he could request the Treasury Department turn over Omar’s returns from 2014 and 2015 to see if she illegally filed jointly in those years.
No personal information about Omar’s income or the deductions she took needs to be made public.
But a simple “yes” or “no” on whether Omar broke the law would resolve this growing controversy.
