When it comes to name-calling, the election year is certainly are one of the worst years for this sordid practice.
However, in the lead up to the final few months of the election, the kid gloves come off.
Normally it’s the politicians who go at each other’s throats and say means thing about the other. That’s to be expected since they know the voting bloc behind them would have their proverbial heads if they didn’t at least try and knock the other candidate down a peg or two via name calling.
But in this election things have really taken a turn.
Things are so dark right now that Hillary Clinton has turned the name calling to supporters of Trump, saying they are “deplorable human beings.”
At a fundraiser a few nights ago Clinton said there are two kinds of Trump supporters.
One of those groups she said, falls into a “basket of deplorables.”
Essentially, she thinks people who value keeping their money instead of handing out over to the government, want the nations’ immigration policies enhanced, and who won’t stand for excessive political correctness are deplorable.
Clinton was speaking at a pro-LGBT fundraiser when she made the remarks.
Here is the quote verbatim.
“You know, just to be grossly generalist, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables,” Clinton said, according to BuzzFeed News. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”
She did say some nice things…she said the other half of Trump’s supporters were normal people who were dissatisfied with the way the government has treated them over the years.
“That other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for a change,” she said. “They don’t buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won’t wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they’re in a dead end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.”
She later told the crowd: “If you know anybody who’s even thinking of voting for Trump, stage an intervention.”
This is not the character we should be looking for in a President to be. We need someone who won’t attack another President because he’s getting back to the constitution and who will take responsibility for the mistakes they made.
Unfortunately, we don’t have that in Mrs. Clinton.
