Americans are counting on President Trump and his coronavirus task force to steer the nation through this pandemic.
One of the key members of the President’s team is Dr. Anthony Fauci.
And now Dr. Fauci said nine words about coronavirus that no one ever thought they would hear.
Dr. Anthony Fauci served six Presidents dating back to 1984 as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
This resume and his service to Presidents of both parties led to Americans placing a great amount of trust in Dr. Fauci’s expertise to help guide the national response to the coronavirus outbreak.
But some Americans are wondering if Dr. Fauci is defaulting to echoing doom and gloom predictions that fly in the face of the facts on the ground.
The latest example of Dr. Fauci sounding alarm bells came during an interview on CBS’s Sunday morning program “Face the Nation.”
During that program, Dr. Fauci echoed warnings from Dr. Deborah Birx and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams that the coming week would be brutal for Americans.
When Margaret Brennan attempted to inject some optimism by noting that the lockdowns were slowing the spread of the virus, Dr. Fauci shot down host Margaret Brennan’s suggestion, claiming “I will not say we have it under control.”
“I will not say we have it under control, Margaret. That would be a false statement. We are struggling to get it under control, and that’s the issue that’s at hand right now. The thing that’s important is that what you see is increases in new cases, which then start to flatten out. But the end result of that, you don’t see for days if not weeks down the pike, because as the- as the cases go down, then you get less hospitalizations, less intensive care, and less death. So even though you’re getting a- really improvement in that the number of new cases is starting to flatten, the deaths will lag by, you know, one or two weeks or more. So we need to be prepared that even though it’s clear that mitigation is working, we’re still going to see that tail off of deaths. So the first thing we want to look for is to see on a daily basis: are the number of new cases starting to stabilize? We’ve seen that in Italy. You just mentioned that correctly. We’re going to hopefully be seeing that in New York very soon. And that’s the first sign of that plateau and coming down,” Dr. Fauci stated.
Cases in America appear to have peaked and leveled off.
In New York and New Jersey – the two worst hot spots – cases declined from the highest totals recorded in those states for multiple days.
Some Americans are wondering if Dr. Fauci is setting an impossible standard – no new recorded deaths or cases – to lift the lockdown guidelines and restart the American economy.
