Polls show Donald Trump lapping the field in the GOP presidential primary.
But that could change.
And now Donald Trump is about to drop out of this 2024 contest.
Donald Trump’s hinted that he doesn’t plan on showing up at the first GOP presidential primary debate hosted by Fox News which is scheduled to take place in Milwaukee on August 23.
In an interview with Newsmax host Eric Bolling, Trump blasted Fox News as biased towards Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Trump also criticized anchor Bret Baier’s conduct in their two-part interview for being overly hostile and said it wouldn’t make sense for him to show up at a debate hosted by Fox News.
“Because it was really like, unfriendly. Everything was like unfriendly. No smiling, no let’s have fun, let’s Make America Great Again. Everything was like a hit. So you have a hostile network. And you have people that are their candidates they are obviously against you … and if you’re leading by 30, 40, 50 points, what’s the purpose of really doing it?” Trump told Bolling.
In a series of social media posts Trump said Fox News is desperate for him to show up at the August debate to boost the network’s ratings.
Fox News viewership fell off a cliff after firing Tucker Carlson and Trump said he was in no mood to help out a network that was boosting one of his competitors.
“So FoxNews, which is down 37% in the Ratings, doesn’t cover my getting the ‘Man of the Decade’ Award (because of my great trade policies!) in Michigan, or my Keynote Speech for Faith & Freedom in D.C., and then wants me to show up and get them ratings for their ‘Presidential’ Debate, where I’m leading the field by 40 points. All they do is promote, against all hope, Ron DeSanctimonious, and he’s dropping like a rock. Sorry FoxNews, life doesn’t work that way!!!” Trump wrote.
Trump added that Fox News carrying a DeSantis campaign event live while refusing to broadcast Trump’s speeches was more evidence the network is biased against him.
“FoxNews just covered, from beginning to end, the Ron DeSanctimonious very boring news conference at the Border, but didn’t cover one minute of my two big speeches on Saturday and Sunday night, one for Faith & Freedom in D.C., the other about trade in Michigan, where I was presented with the ‘Man of the Decade’ Award. The DeSanctus speech was just a rehash of all the things I did to have the ‘safest and strongest Border in U.S. history.’ Also, I’m up on him by 40 points, & also up big on Biden!” Trump continued.
Fox News executives hope the 2024 election reverses the crashing ratings.
In the 2016 campaign Trump’s appearance at the first GOP debate set a record drawing in an audience of 25 million viewers.
But that event also led to friction between Trump and Fox.
Trump actually boycotted Fox News for two weeks after the debate feeling that Megyn Kelly’s question to open the debate about Trump’s past comments about women was a set-up to try and end his campaign.
And in January Trump boycotted a debate hosted by Fox Business Channel over the fact that Kelly was one of the moderators.
Polls show Trump 30 points ahead of his nearest competitor.
And Trump likely does not feel he needs to debate candidates that so far are not threatening his lead.
That fact, combined with Trump feeling slighted by Fox News as a report after the election revealed network founder Rupert Murdoch told Trump he would not support his re-election campaign, make it well within the realm of possibility that Donald Trump does not show up to the Fox News debate.
