California Congressman Devin Nunes emerged as one of Donald Trump’s most effective allies in rooting out the crimes and corruption of Barack Obama and his Deep State allies.
Now all hell is breaking loose after what Nunes announced on Fox News.
And the big reveal is that Devin Nunes just took one of Trump’s enemies to court. You won’t believe why.
In an appearance on Maria Bartiromo’s “Sunday Futures” Fox News program, Nunes announced he was suing the Amazon Washington Post over what Nunes claimed was a fake news story.
Nunes alleged the Post falsely – and purposefully – published a story claiming Nunes informed President Trump of a classified briefing attended by Acting Director of National Intelligence Joe Maguire where an election security expert falsely claimed Russia was meddling in the 2020 election to boost Donald Trump.
Nunes explained to Bartiromo why he filed suit:
“So, we will likely file tomorrow — file tomorrow in the afternoon in federal court. This is just ongoing nonsense. We’re on Russia-gate 9.0.
“A lot of people forget, because the narrative was — the new Russia hoax that started about 10 days ago, two weeks ago, fell victim to the new narrative about coronavirus, and then blaming Trump.
“But the mainstream media continues to go about their normal pace of creating narratives and then going out and selling them to the American people. And they hope that we forget.
“But, unfortunately, for me and for the American people, these fake news stories live on. And what The Washington Post did to me once again is — there’s no explanation for it.
“I — I never talked to President Trump about Admiral Maguire. I didn’t go to the White House. None of this was true, was — it was all invented by someone.”
This is not the first time Nunes resorted to legal remedies to hold the fake news accountable.
Nunes previously filed a $435 million lawsuit against fake news CNN alleging the left-wing gossip channel defamed him by reporting he traveled to Vienna to meet with Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas to gather dirt on Joe Biden.
For years the fake news media smeared conservatives with hit pieces, lies and hoaxes.
And Republicans sat back and absorbed the blows because they treated the press like a good faith actor in the political process.
That all changed when Donald Trump came on the scene.
Now Republicans like Nunes are adopting the President’s aggressive posture to fight back against the fake news media and hold so-called “news” outlets accountable for their misinformation and hoaxes.
So-called “journalists” don’t even pretend to be neutral arbiters of truth.
Members of the press used the election of Donald Trump as an excuse to drop any pretense of fairness and presenting both sides to move the so-called “news” media into the realm of taking sides because they claimed there cannot be two versions of the truth.
But in every single story the fake news media’s version of the “truth” lined up perfectly with the Democrat Party’s talking points on the matter.
If all the fake news did was adopt partisan talking points as the framing of their coverage that would be bad enough, but it would be a manageable problem.
However, in the Trump era, hoaxes and conspiracy theories like Russia collusion replaced real news and made it impossible for Americans to discern what is true and what is a lie fabricated by the media to hurt the President.
The President calling the media out as fake news and the enemy of the people was the first step in the evolution of the GOP’s posture towards a hostile press that now openly works for the Democrat Party.
Devin Nunes’ lawsuits are phase two of the Republican Party learning that they do not have to accept the fake news lying about them.
