The FBI using human spies to infiltrate the Trump campaign is the biggest scandal in American political history.
Devin Nunes has been chasing down leads that will expose the true roots of the investigation.
And what Nunes found is bad news for Obama.
Just how did the FBI counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign begin?
Initial reporting indicated Carter Page’s trip to Moscow in the summer of 2016 kicked off the probe.
But that became problematic when it was revealed that the source of that information was the Christopher Steele dossier paid for by Hillary Clinton.
So the FBI switched gears and invented a new origin story.
The New York Times reported on December 30th, 2017 that the investigation began when Australian officials passed information about Papadopoulos drunkenly blabbing about the Russians having Hillary’s emails to former diplomat Alexander Downer in July 2016:
“But two months later, when leaked Democratic emails began appearing online, Australian officials passed the information about Mr. Papadopoulos to their American counterparts, according to four current and former American and foreign officials with direct knowledge of the Australians’ role.”
When the article was published, everyone read it to mean that the Australian intelligence officials reported the contents of Papadopoulos’ conversation with Downer to the FBI.
But that is not entirely true.
The Times’ vague description of Australian officials feeding the intelligence to their American counterparts is actually referring to Downer feeding the information to what would have been his counterparts – officials at the U.S. embassy in London.
Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal wrote:
“My reporting indicates otherwise. A diplomatic source tells me Mr. Hockey neither transmitted any information to the FBI nor was approached by the U.S. about the tip. Rather, it was Mr. Downer who at some point decided to convey his information—to the U.S. Embassy in London.”
This means that the information that kicked off this investigation flowed through the Obama administration and its political appointees.
And this tracks with a little-noticed interview back in April with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes and Fox Business Channel’s Maria Bartiromo.
Nunes told Bartiromo that he was investigating irregularities at the State Department saying,
“My reporting indicates otherwise. A diplomatic source tells me Mr. Hockey neither transmitted any information to the FBI nor was approached by the U.S. about the tip. Rather, it was Mr. Downer who at some point decided to convey his information—to the U.S. Embassy in London.”
The Intelligence Committee Chairman went on to reveal that there was no intelligence report that was used to start the investigation:
“I think that is the point. We don’t understand, we’ve never understood. We don’t have access to these finished intelligence products, and we’ve never seen one. We thought maybe one went through a different channel that was kept really secret… well, in fact, after our investigators reviewed this, there was no Five Eyes intelligence product, as has been reported. There was no product. And I think that is a major problem…”
This is an important point.
Downer was a former diplomat who was connected to the Clinton Foundation.
The investigation into Trump was a political operation from the start.
Obama administration officials laundered the investigation through the FBI to try and conceal the fact that the incumbent Democrat White House put the opposing party’s Presidential candidate under surveillance in hope of discovering damaging political information.
Nunes is tugging at this thread and won’t let go until their entire cover up unravels.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this story.
