The government shutdown is now well into its third week.
Neither the Democrats or Trump are willing to budge. Trump still wants his 5.3 billion dollars. The Democrats keep telling him to kick rocks; they’re only going to approve their paltry billion dollar olive leaf.
All of this brouhaha has created a nasty ripple effect.
Government workers have been working for weeks without pay.
There’s a palpable feeling of discontent. People are upset with the Democrats and with Trump.
Unfortunately for Trump, the effects of the shutdown are hitting him harder than it’s hitting the Democrats. And that’s saying something since Trump’s been punched in the guy for a while now.
Trump’s Approval Ratings Are Sliding
With the media offering 24/7 coverage of the shutdown things are getting worse and worse for Trump.
“Trump’s disapproval rating higher since the shutdown began.
President Trump’s disapproval rating has increased since the beginning of the ongoing government shutdown, according to a new poll.
A CNN poll published Sunday found that Trump’s disapproval rating is at 57 percent, up five points from December. The poll also found that his approval rating is at 37 percent, roughly the same it was last month.
The poll also found that a majority of the public blames Trump for the shutdown, rather than Democrats.
According to the poll, 55 percent of respondents said Trump is to blame for the shutdown and 32 percent said Democrats are mostly to blame. Another 9 percent of respondents said both sides are to blame.
The poll’s results are based on interviews with a random sample of 848 adults on Jan. 10 and Jan. 11. The poll has a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.”
This Isn’t Necessarily News
Trump hasn’t been the recipient of a lot of support. At least not in the polls.
Since Trump took office his poll ratings have been what you may call dismal.
He’s historically at a 40.6% approval rating and a 54% disapproval rating.
What does that tell you?
Probably that the news media’s constant attacks on the President have affected the perception the President enjoys.
The truth is plenty of Americans truly support the President. Though, not all of them are at liberty to admit it. Plenty of people keep their support of Trump under wraps because public support of the President can have catastrophic consequences on their professional and personal lives.
Rest assured, these numbers aren’t accurate.
Plenty of people support the President and the shutdown.
They see the President’s interminable pursuit of the wall as his willingness to keep a promise. To them, it doesn’t matter if the President is liked by CNN, NBC, and the rest.
They know this is their President and they back him up 100%.
