All hell broke loose on the floor of the Senate during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
No one could believe what they saw.
And Chuck Schumer was forced to admit Democrats told one giant lie about impeachment.
The Democrat House impeachment managers imploded as the presentation dragged on.
Their arguments became more shrill and partisan and on multiple occasions were not based in truth or reality.
Former mafia lawyer and House impeachment manager David Cicilline got caught repeating a fabricated story about Utah Senator Mike Lee that Cicilline used as evidence that Donald Trump encouraged Senators to support an insurrection as the rioters stormed the Capitol.
Cicilline recounted news reports of Donald Trump trying to call Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville to beg him to continue his objection to the Electoral College results by dialing Senator Lee by accident.
“Shortly after 2 p.m., as the siege was fully underway, then-President Trump made a call. This is the first call we are aware he made to anyone inside the Capitol during the attack. He didn’t call the Vice President to ask how he could help defend the Capitol. He didn’t call the next two in line of succession to the presidency to check on their safety or well-being. Instead, he attempted to call Sen. Tuberville. He dialed Sen. Lee by accident,” Cicilline stated.
Cicilline then detailed what Lee stated was a completely fictional account of what he heard Tuberville and President Trump discuss on the phone.
“As Sen. Lee describes it, he had just ended a prayer with his colleagues here in the Senate chamber. The phone rang. It was Donald Trump. How Sen. Lee explains it the phone call goes something like this: ‘Hey Tommy,’ Trump asks. Sen. Lee says, ‘this isn’t Tommy’ and he hands the phone to Sen. Tuberville. Sen. Lee then confirmed he stood by as Sen. Tuberville and President Trump spoke on the phone. On that call, Donald Trump reportedly asked Sen. Tuberville to make additional objections to the certification process. That’s why he called,” Cicilline added.
Lee objected, stating that Cicilline’s comments “were not made by me, they’re not accurate, and they’re contrary to fact. I move…that they be stricken from the record.”
But Trump-hating Senator Patrick Leahy who is presiding over the trial proved this was a kangaroo court by ruling against Lee.
Senator Lee then forced a vote to overrule Leahy’s ruling at which point Chuck Schumer—of all people—jumped in to stop the vote invoking a procedure called noting the absence of a quorum.
This maneuver paused the vote and allowed Schumer to huddle with his troops.
After the delay, lead impeachment manager Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin withdrew the false account of Lee and Tuberville’s phone call with Donald Trump.
“The impeachment manager Mr. Cicilline correctly and accurately quoted a newspaper account which the distinguished senator has taken objection to, so we’re happy to withdraw it,” Congressman Raskin stated.
As the hours dragged on the Democrats’ case grew weaker.
Democrats tried to make the argument all Republicans were guilty of inciting the insurrection by supposedly tolerating Donald Trump’s “violent” language since 2016.
That combined with fabricating accounts of Republican senators participating in fueling the riot will only harden Republican senators’ resolve to acquit Donald Trump.
