CNN fired Chris Cuomo after an avalanche of revelations.
The breaking point was an allegation of sexual misconduct.
And Brett Kavanaugh has this strange link to the scandal that brought down Chris Cuomo.
Employment lawyer Debra Katz represented Christine Blasey Ford when Ford made her false claims of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh.
Now it appears Katz delivered the death blow to Chris Cuomo’s CNN career.
CNN fired Cuomo after a client Katz represented notified CNN about an allegation of sexual misconduct when the two worked at another network.
Katz said her client came forward after the New York State attorney general released a report where Cuomo admitted to investigators that he worked his contacts in the media to dig up dirt on some of the women that leveled allegations of sexual harassment against his brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
“Hearing the hypocrisy of Chris Cuomo’s on-air words and disgusted by his efforts to try to discredit these women, my client retained counsel to report his serious sexual misconduct against her to CNN,” Katz announced.
Several months ago, former ABC producer Shelley Ross published an op-ed in The New York Times describing an episode in 2005 where Ross alleged that Cuomo hugged her and squeezed her buttocks at a going away party for a colleague.
“At the time, I was the executive producer of an ABC entertainment special, but I was Mr. Cuomo’s executive producer at ‘Primetime Live’ just before that,” Ross wrote. “When Mr. Cuomo entered the Upper West Side bar, he walked toward me and greeted me with a strong bear hug while lowering one hand to firmly grab and squeeze the cheek of my buttock.”
After CNN fired Cuomo, Cuomo released a statement expressing his displeasure at CNN firing him but avoided any mention of the allegations by Katz’s client.
“This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother,” Cuomo stated. “So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at ‘Cuomo Prime Time’ and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”
CNN stood by Cuomo as long as they could.
Cuomo stopped functioning as a journalist and instead put on the jersey of a political operative.
CNN was fine with Cuomo sitting in on strategy calls with his brother’s advisors as Governor Cuomo’s team plotted their response to a snowballing number of women claiming Governor Cuomo sexually harassed them.
And when CNN suspended Cuomo after the New York State attorney general’s report revealed Cuomo tried to work the media to discredit his brother’s accusers it did not appear to be a fatal mistake.
CNN so-called “media correspondent” Brian Stelter stated on-air that it would not surprise him if Cuomo was back on the air by January.
But Katz – the same lawyer that represented Christine Blasey Ford – producing another client making an allegation of sexual harassment against Andrew Cuomo was a bridge too far and spelled the end for Chris Cuomo.
