Attorney General William Barr took over for Jeff Sessions and nothing was ever the same again.
Donald Trump finally thought he had an Attorney General he could count on.
Now all hell is breaking loose after William Barr announced this big change.
Donald Trump was furious when the Justice Department surrendered in the face of Chief Justice John Roberts’ betrayal over the Trump administration including a question about citizenship in the 2020 census.
Roberts decision left open an avenue for the Trump administration to achieve victory, but the career lawyers in the Justice Department waved the white flag of surrender.
President Trump told Americans he intended to fight on, and William Barr subsequently announced that a new team of Justice Department attorneys would now handle the case.
Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec explained the change:
“As will be reflected in filings tomorrow in the census-related cases, the Department of Justice is shifting these matters to a new team of Civil Division lawyers going forward,” Kupec stated.
“Since these cases began, the lawyers representing the United States in these cases have given countless hours to defending the Commerce Department and have consistently demonstrated the highest professionalism, integrity, and skill inside and outside the courtroom. The Attorney General appreciates that service, thanks them for their work on these important matters, and is confident that the new team will carry on in the same exemplary fashion as the cases progress.”
Democrats and their allies in the fake news media flipped their wigs.
They claimed Trump and Barr were setting up a constitutional crisis and that they had to change attorneys because no career lawyer at the Justice Department would sign up for this fight.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Barr explained his thinking as to why the administration is continuing this fight.
“I agree with him that the Supreme Court decision was wrong,” Barr stated.
Barr also told the Associated Press that there was “an opportunity potentially to cure the lack of clarity that was the problem and we might as well take a shot at doing that.”
Attorney General Barr also laid out the timeframe in which the administration is expected to act.
“I think over the next day or two you’ll see what approach we’re taking and I think it does provide a pathway for getting the question on the census,” Attorney General Barr added.
The citizenship question is very important and very popular.
A recent Economist/You.Gov poll found that 53 percent of Americans favored including the citizenship question on the census, compared to just 32 percent that opposed it appearing on the census.
Democrats want the question off the census so more illegal aliens respond.
Illegal aliens responding to the census increases the ability of Democrats to gain Congressional seats in red states like Florida and Texas.
That would allow the left to turn them into deep blue states like California and New York—and lock Republicans out of power permanently.
