Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thought she held a winning hand.
The socialist Congresswoman was on the verge of a victory that would change America forever.
But she got caught telling this one lie that just ruined her for good.
The 93 trillion dollar “Green New Deal” is at the center of Ocasio-Cortez’s plan to fundamentally transform America into a socialist nation like Venezuela.
But the details of the plan are deeply unpopular.
Ocasio-Cortez’s plan would ban hamburgers, airplane travel, and fossil fuel powered cars.
The “Green New Deal” would also guarantee a federal welfare check to any American who does not want to work.
Donald Trump and the Republicans cannot wait to run against this Marxist scheme in 2020.
And Democrats sense their political peril.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell teed up a vote on the “Green New Deal” in the Senate.
Not one single Democrat voted “yes” on the proposal.
A procedural vote on advancing the “Green New Deal” went down in a humiliating 57-0 defeat.
President Trump joked that he didn’t want the “Green New Deal” brought up for a vote because he wanted it front and center for the 2020 campaign.
“I really don’t want to say anything about it. I want them to keep going forward with it because I want to campaign against it,” Trump told Sean Hannity in an interview.
“You look at this Green New Deal. It’s the most preposterous thing,” Trump repeated in a Fox Business interview. “Now I don’t want to knock it too much right now because I really hope they keep going forward with it, frankly, because I think it’s going to be very easy to beat.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s allies in the fake news media realized Democrats were getting pummeled on this outlandish proposal and swooped in for damage control.
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes hosted a townhall on so-called “climate change.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared on the program and used her time to cast the “Green New Deal” in the same light as the New Deal, the Great Society, and the Civil Rights moment.
But Ocasio-Cortez’s history lesson flew off the rails when she claimed the “Green New Deal” would lead to political domination like the Democrats experienced in the 1930s and 40s when FDR’s New Deal program led to one electoral win after another.
But she falsely claimed the Constitution was changed to prevent President Franklin Roosevelt from running for re-election.
“When we look in to our history, when our party was boldest, the time of the New Deal, the Great Society, the Civil Rights Act, and so on, we had and carried super majorities in the House in the Senate, we carried the Presidency,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.
“They had to amend the Constitution of the United States to make sure Roosevelt did not get re-elected.”
This was a lie.
President Roosevelt died in 1945, shortly after winning his fourth term in 1944.
The 22nd Amendment – which limited the President to two terms – was ratified in 1947.
