Donald Trump is facing threats on every front.
At home, his political enemies are trying to overthrow him and abroad America’s geopolitical foes are trying to test the President’s resolve.
And now a top General issued this warning that is seriously bad news for Donald Trump.
Retired General Robert Spalding spent 26 years in the State Department and the Pentagon focusing on China.
For the last 50 years, American Presidents sought to open up America’s markets to Chinese products in the hopes that drawing China into the global economy would end the repressive Communist government.
Those naïve hopes blew up in the faces of American leaders as all China did was steal American technology and industry through lopsided trade deals.
And in an interview with Breitbart Sirius XM Radio, Spalding warned that the bill for America’s weak policy towards China has come due.
Spalding described how America’s failed trade deals hallowed out America’s industrial base and shipped all the jobs and knowledge to China.
“There was such a large industrial effort for the Space Race. Back then, we were spending two percent of GDP on research and development. We had the industrial base that was the envy of the world. AT&T, at the time, was a monopoly, and with Bell Labs, was the standard for telecommunications,” Spalding began.
“When you look at America today, we have no telecommunication equipment manufacturers left that are American companies. When China entered the WTO in 2001, from that time period to 2017, we lost 78,000 factories. We unemployed 3.4 million manufacturing jobs. In the same time, we spent trillions in the Middle East,” Spalding continued.
Retired General Spalding also explained shipping jobs overseas in the name of globalism left America at risk and unable because it is no longer able to manufacture any of the necessities of national defense.
“We fell into this trap of believing that open markets lead to wealth, and wealth leads to democracy, and, therefore, if we just open ourselves up to the world, that the world would automatically democratize,” Spalding continued. “In the space of that 20 years, we essentially deindustrialized our entire country to the point where we almost can’t manufacture any of the things we need to defend ourselves.”
This startling assessment of past American Presidents’ failures is why President Trump poured so much political capital into confronting the communist Chinese.
President Trump’s creation of a space force is designed to correct American negligence in the war for technological superiority.
And the President slapped 25 percent tariffs on Chinese goods in the hopes of forcing China to the negotiating table to restructure the fundamental imbalance in America’s relationship with the Chinese.
The American establishment is united against Trump.
Too many businesses and politicians profited while Americans suffered.
But Donald Trump was elected to pick this fight.
And as retired General Spalding explained, the stakes are too high for America to continue down the path it was on in regards to China.
