Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a rising star in the Republican Party.
DeSantis’ poll numbers continue to rise.
And a shocking arrest revealed something about Ron DeSantis that no one knew.
In 2018, Ron DeSantis defeated Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum by 30,000 votes.
Republicans never knew how close they came to losing to an allegedly corrupt Democrat.
The Department of Justice indicted Gillum on 19 counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud related to Gillum and an associate allegedly using campaign donations for personal use.
Both face 19 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, each of which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence. Gillum faces two additional charges of lying to investigators, each of which carries a maximum five-year sentence.
According to the indictment, the FBI began to sniff out the alleged scheme in 2016, when Gillum was mayor and undercover agents investigating corruption in the city were steered to him. The two are alleged to have used his position as mayor, as a progressive activist and then as a top candidate for governor to skim money from a variety of individual donors and nonprofit groups, fraudulently pretending to perform voter outreach or to fight for local government rights while pocketing the cash — even after his campaign for governor ended in 2018.
Gillum bizarrely claimed his fellow Democrats in the Biden Justice Department targeted him for political retribution.
“I have spent the last 20 years of my life in public service and continue to fight for the people,” Gillum stated. “Every campaign I’ve run has been done with integrity. Make no mistake that this case is not legal, it is political. Throughout my career I have always stood up for the people of Florida and have spoken truth to power. There’s been a target on my back ever since I was the mayor of Tallahassee. They found nothing then, and I have full confidence that my legal team will prove my innocence now.”
This indictment continues Gillum’s downward spiral.
In March 2020 police found a naked and allegedly inebriated and unresponsive Gillum passed out on the floor of a hotel room he shared with an alleged male prostitute.
Police found crystal meth in the room.
Gillum soon entered rehab.
Had Andrew Gillum defeated Ron DeSantis in 2020 there would have been no one to lead the fight against Dr. Fauci’s COVID tyranny.
There would also be no Republican governor pushing back against Disney’s woke politics and banning teachers grooming students into transgenderism with sexually inappropriate curriculum.
The state of Florida – and America – dodged a bullet when Ron DeSantis defeated Andrew Gillum.
But no one really understood that fact at the time.
