CNN is still not out from under a sex scandal that rocked the network.
The next shoe just dropped.
And this bombshell $125 million lawsuit may bring down these three top stars at CNN.
Disgraced former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo slapped CNN with a $125 million lawsuit seeking the remaining $15 million owed on his contract and $100 million in damages claiming former CNN network president Jeff Zucker destroyed his reputation when Zucker fired Cuomo for helping his brother New York Governor Andrew Cuomo respond to allegations of sexual assault and harassment.
“Cuomo has had his journalistic integrity unjustifiably smeared, making it difficult if not impossible for Cuomo to find similar work in the future and damaging him in amounts exceeding $125 million, which includes not only the remaining salary owed under the Agreement, but future wages lost as a result of CNN’s efforts to destroy his reputation in violation of the Agreement,” Cuomo’s lawsuit reads. “Cuomo now seeks to recover the full measure of his damages against Turner and CNN.”
In his lawsuit, Cuomo alleged that Zucker and Allison Gollust – the CNN executive that Zucker admitted to concealing an affair with – engaged in the same behavior.
“CNN, Zucker and Gollust were fully aware of the scope of Cuomo’s assistance to Gov. Cuomo and in fact participated in and encouraged the same behavior,” Cuomo’s filing adds.
And in fact Rolling Stone published a report detailing text messages between Gollust and Governor Cuomo in between CNN appearances in March 2020.
The messages implied Gollust coached Governor Cuomo on how to respond to President Trump.
After the interview, Gollust sent Governor Cuomo a celebratory text message declaring Governor Cuomo came out ahead in the feud that day.
Cuomo then accused Zucker and CNN hosts Jake Tapper, Don Lemon and Brian Stelter of violating a non-disparagement clause in Cuomo’s termination agreement.
“Other CNN staff joined in the calculated campaign to smear Cuomo and destroy his reputation. Jake Tapper, a CNN anchor, publicly assailed Cuomo’s ethics as a journalist and falsely claimed that Cuomo ‘threatened’ Zucker. Don Lemon, another CNN anchor, falsely claimed that Cuomo had been ‘found to break with those journalistic standards and then [was] paid handsomely for it.’ Brian Stelter, CNN’s chief media correspondent, said Cuomo was ‘acting like an unpaid staffer’ for Gov. Cuomo and had been ‘trying to burn the place down’ after CNN terminated him,” the filing states.
Chris Cuomo reportedly was very good at preserving emails.
So Chris Cuomo knows where all the bodies were buried at CNN on Jeff Zucker’s watch.
The fallout from the Chris Cuomo lawsuit continues to spread.
And there is no telling how much damage it will do to CNN.
