But now the truth is out and the bill has come due.
And now the Supreme Court could jail an Obama ally for one shocking crime.
Career prosecutors in the Department of Justice declined to indict James Comey after Inspector General Michael Horowitz referred Comey for criminal prosecution over the former FBI Director mishandling classified information.
Comey crowed about the decision on social media.
But Comey still faces significant legal exposure.
Appearing on Fox News Channel’s “The Five”, former Congressman Jason Chaffetz ripped into Comey’s conduct and declared the disgraced former FBI Director was not out of the woods yet.
“James Comey is not out of the woods yet,” Chaffetz explained. “If James Comey thinks he has won the day, are you kidding me? The first report on him said he acted as insubordinate. This is as damning as any report you’ll ever see from an inspector general.”
Chaffetz went on to accuse Comey of misleading the FISA court judge in the FBI’s application for a warrant to spy on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
“The chief justice of the Supreme Court — once the inspector general does the FISA report — they could very well hold people in contempt,” Chaffetz added.
“James Comey’s autograph is on one of those [applications]. The Supreme Court should actually hold them accountable from misleading on the FISA abuse,” Chaffetz concluded.
FBI procedure demands that only verified information appear in FISA warrant applications.
James Comey testified that the Christopher Steele Russia dossier – which was the centerpiece of the FISA warrant application – was not verified.
And that put Comey in danger of violating the law.
Supreme Court justice John Roberts oversees the FISA court.
Millions of Americans joined former Congressman Chaffetz in calling for Comey to face the consequences for lying to the FISA judge about the Steele dossier.
Many ordinary citizens already believe America has a two-tiered justice system.
Prosecutors throw the book at Trump associates and let Obama Deep State operatives walk free despite standing accused of committing the same crimes.
A simple way to restore trust in American institutions is to prove that the justice system truly is blind to party affiliation, status or political connections.
The case against Comey for mishandling classified information was marginal.
Comey’s memos about his conversations with Donald Trump were given the designation of “confidential” – the lowest level of classification – and this was only done after the fact.
However, the evidence that Comey misled the FISA court is clear-cut.
In addition to lying about the Steele dossier being verified, Comey also misled the court about the origins of the Steele dossier.
Comey never truthfully disclosed the fact that the Hillary Clinton campaign paid for the dossier.
Critics – such as Chaffetz – believe Comey committed multiple crimes during the Russian collusion hoax.
Now Americans are wondering if anyone will hold him accountable.
