California Governor Gavin Newsom was considered one of the Democratic Party frontrunners for 2028.
That all just changed.
And Gavin Newsom’s mistress came clean on the affair that will throw 2028 into chaos.
Ruby Rippey, a former city hall aide to Newsom when he served as Mayor of San Francisco, detailed her affair with Newsom in an essay published in Vanity Fair.
Rippey was married to Newsom’s friend and top aide Alan Turek at the time while Newsom was dating the woman who would become his wife.
In the essay, Rippey wrote that she began focusing on her appearance and dressing more sexily once Newsom moved her office closer to his.
“I start paying closer attention to what I wear. Chanel makeup. Pink patent leather heels. A tight pencil skirt. I cross my legs; I feel important. It’s hard to reconcile that woman with the person I would become in one short year,” Rippey wrote.
Rippey wrote that Newsom flirted with her in front of her husband while they ate at a Mexican restaurant.
“Hey — you look really good,” Riley recalled Newsom telling her.
“You’ve lost all your pregnancy weight,” Newsom added.
Rippey said this episode caused her to break her sobriety and begin drinking again.
In the essay, Rippey described how her affair with Newsom began after she began drinking heavily at a wedding, and the two ended up in a hallway.
“My boss and I end up in the narrow hallway outside the bathroom at the same time. We wait, across from each other,” Rippey wrote. “The space is tight. The silence stretches. He slips his hands into his tan trouser pockets and smiles — his usual shy, aw-shucks smile. I say nothing. I hold his gaze longer than I should.
“The air changes,’ Rippey added.
Rippey then described how she continued partying with Newsom in a hot tub while her husband angrily drove home to be with the couple’s one-year-old child.
”He is across from me, slipping off his shoes and socks, rolling up his pant legs. My husband leaves soon after, irritated that I want to keep partying while he drives home to our one-year-old son,” Rippey recounted.
Rippey then said the last thing she remembered was riding in Newsom’s chauffeured vehicle before waking up “cold, almost shivering” and “soaked from the waist down.”
In the essay, Rippey recalled that she wet the bed while Newsom slept.
Rippey then described the affair.
“The text message is a hit. The glance across the hallway, a hit. The risk floods my bloodstream. I walk down the corridors of City Hall — my nude stilettos striking the marble floor. He looks at me, his gaze deliberate, newly curious. It feels like oxygen,” Rippey added.
Rippey then recounted another sexual episode that took place at the W hotel, which caused her to break down.
The New York Post reported that Rippey wrote that “she woke up at Newsom’s side, but this time with buttons all over the floor. Rippey didn’t know the source of the buttons at the time. Ashamed, she booked a flight home and cried on the plane. “
Rippey went on to say that her drinking got worse.
“By now, the version of myself manning the nerve center is collapsing. I am now working in a makeshift office that used to be a copy room. I am coming in late, hungover most days. Leaving early, thinking only about drinking,” Rippey stated.
Rippey then stated that the affair ended when her cocaine use caused a bloody nose that led to an emergency room visit, causing her family to step in.
Newsom started 2026 at the top of the polls for the Democratic Party nomination.
But he’s been losing altitude as the year went on.
