A close Trump ally passed away.
Washington is in shock.
And the news hit like a ton of bricks when Trump just posted the one death announcement he never wanted to make
President Trump stunned the nation by breaking the news that South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham had passed away.
“Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!! DETAILS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO FOLLOW. So sad!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Graham had just returned from another trip to Ukraine and died hours before his scheduled appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Press reports indicate Graham died after emergency medical personnel arrived at his home following a report of Graham suffering from chest pain.
“Emergency officials responded to Graham’s Capitol Hill home at around 8:30 p.m. when they received a report about an individual suffering from chest pains, the Washington Post reported, citing police scanner audio,” the New York Post reported.
“Officials performed CPR on the man as he went into cardiac arrest nearly a half hour later and was rushed to George Washington University Hospital, according to the outlet,” the Post report went on to say.
Graham then didn’t survive attempts to revive him and passed away.
Graham ran for President against Trump in 2016 and emerged as one of Trump’s fiercest critics.
“If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed… and we will deserve it,” Graham said of what would befall the GOP if Trump won.
Graham opposed Trump because Graham supported amnesty and never-ending foreign wars.
But after Trump won the 2016 election, Graham turned into one of Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress.
Before his passing, Graham was one of Trump’s biggest defenders on the war with Iran and told press outlets that the decision to initiate hostilities with Iran was history-defining.
“I have a lot of respect for President Trump. He is his own man,” Graham said in an interview with Axios. “And as with all presidents, he will be held responsible for his decisions on such weighty matters.
“As to me, history will be very clear as to where I stood, for better or worse,” Graham added.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster will now pick a replacement to run in a special primary election, which appears to be scheduled for August 11.
